work for knight for 8 mo out of atlanta ga. the y have apprx 3700 trk 6100 trl and took out 700 by the end of july 07. it would take me at least 2hrs to find empty and payroll wasnt that great. they wouldnt pay u for searching foy a mty. they have a lot of 250-450 mi run that are regional. if u have hazmat they will pay you $20 for delv no matter if local or not. if you are a newbie they maybe ok for awhile but for a exp driver they are not good! oh yeah they will take loads from drivers not out of that reg terminal. they offered me a dedicated run from atl area to ga-fl border and back to atl same day. any driver who had a load going to fl would have to drop in atlanta. one of us would take it to valdosta and wait for a fl driver to bring load to swap and drop that load in atl. the drivers that had to drop wasnt very happy

So what is the verdict on Knight Trans? is this a good company to work for or not with 1 1/2 years experience.

be careful with knight. they have lost a lot of business since the begining
of 08. lack of drivers and trailers. they are not the company they use to be it he late 90's early 2000's |

Since July 1st I have run 10,000+ miles and will easily hit the 15-16,000 mark for the month. Been running the wheels off my truck. So if we have lost some business since the beginning of the year I am glad because I can't handle any more work.

my experience with knight transport
i just quit working for this outfit, after almost nine miserable months, i had only one week over 2500 miles and never refused a load and only requested time off a couple days a month if i didnt get by the terminal. based out of the tulare ca terminal. detention was regular and a struggle to get them to pay. every other week was an all day game of phone tag with payroll, because something always went wrong. getting reimbursed for scales and tolls also a constant battle. i have 10 years of experience and have never had to deal with more than an occasional error, but with these guys it was constant. some weeks my pay was lost in the system altogether. on top of that sitting for 3 to 4 days at a time was regular. i stayed with these guys, for nine months, thinking it would just take time to learn their system and hoping things would pick up after the winter months. which during winter i never refused a load and "threw iron regularly" in hopes of getting that extra load. in short, i went the extra mile for these guys and recieved nothing but grief. the last straw, sitting in the seattle area for 3 days after delivering and once again not getting paid for the previous 4 trips i had turned in because of a "glitch on their part" . no load and no money, i told them to stick it and headed south empty to tulare and turned in their truck. a very nice 379 pete. thats my experience, i did however run into a lot of drivers that were very happy with this company.

This is totally unrelated,but I remember my truck being right next to there corporate terminal late last year when it almost got COMPLETLY engulfed in flames.There little pallet storage place was completly destroyed.Was total chaos.Total place was evacuated and I believe all of there dispatch went over to there Roads West headquarters.

I have to say for a solo driver this is about the maximum anyone can run in a month legally. I was lucky and it was a perfect month. Mostly all drop and hook, and when I did hit a dock it was no more than 15-20 minutes to load or unload. I had everything from 2,300 mile runs to doing a few local 50 milers. Biggest thing was I was always pre-planned and never sat waiting for a load. I will also say it's time to relax a bit for the month of August. "I'm tired" You can do a schedule like this for one month but not month after month. |
