Child Ride-along

Most companies I know of have an age floor below which they won't allow kids to be ridealongs. Others only allow it when school is not in session. I gotta wonder why anyone would want a child in an industrial environment. Too dangerous. BOL

extenuating circumstances at home make it necessary. honestly if there was any way to do it different we would. but there isn't so, any help would be greatly appreciated. the only company i found so far is one we have never heard of and we're hesitant about joining up with them without knowing more.

The youngest I've seen is 6 years old with TMC.

At Hunt Transportation you can have a child 1-5 years of age on the truck with you, but the mother or other parent, would have to be on the truck as well. Once the child is 6 and above they can ride without the mother on the truck.

Hunt also has a immediate family rider policy. Meaning your spouse, children, grand children, or step children are the only ones that can ride along.

So if you have a child by someone that isnt married to you under the age of 6, and you would like them to ride along with you they would not be able to ride due to the mother or father not being immediate family.

This is from the Crete website, includes Crete Carrier, Shaffer trucking and Hunt transportation

* Spouse, which includes "common law" spouse where permitted by law
or
* One child, stepchild, foster-child or grandchild 4 years of age or younger, provided they are accompanied by the non-driving spouse
or
* One child, foster-child, stepchild or grandchild 5 through 18 years of age, with or without the non-driving spouse.

The only company that I know of with no age limit or occupancy limit is Prime, and that is if you are an O/O or fleece purchase driver.

The old Dick Simon would let anyone ride, newborns, mothers, you name it.

They went out of business and I doubt that the company that took their place, Central Refrigerated, has the same policy.

If I would have to guess I would say Central's rider policy is the same as Swifts. Children age 10 or over when not in school. Least ways that was Swift's policy when I worked there in 99.

I think Schneider is 10 yrs and up, and only during summer mos.

Crete

Crete is the most generous I have seen with the 1-5 yr old as long as another parent is on board. Then 5-19 can come along. The immediate family thing is strange though, would like to take mom and dad on board once in awhile. Oh, well it pays the bills.

WHY does the Other parent need to be there????????

I have a 16 month baby who rides in a car seat. In order for us to ever see my husband again, I have to forget about my chronic pain and earn an income while having the baby with me. We are alone. I have no one to just leave him with and if he gets an attack no one knows how to revive him either unless I leave him in a hospital..so hes IN A CAR SEAT. Why? do I need someone else there?

I drove with him 16 hours straight before, I stopped just to change him, bottle him and back to driving. I have to go to bathroom and eat too so again Why? Hes happy in car seat. Hes calm like me.

Not to go off the rails here but wasn't it a Simon driver who went nuts and drove into the capital building in Sacramento, CA. ?
