Yellow, Roadway or UPS?

I'm a rookie without a clue.

I know I want to drive, but I don't know who I want to drive for. OTR is out of the picture, I want to be home every night. I live in the northeast.

I could work my way up with UPS-P, but the managers told me one needs, on average, 15 years of seniority driving package cars to become a feeder driver. I see Yellow drivers are unionized, but I don't really know for sure what the pay is. Same goes for Roadway. Last, there's UPS-Freight.

If you guys were at the start of your career and had to choose one company to work for (UPS-P, UPS-F, Roadway, Yellow), which would it be? Would you wait 15 years to become a feeder driver? Or is the pay for the other co's good enough? Am I forgetting about other co's in my region?

Do you already have your CDL or do you still have to get it. If you do not have any experience it will be difficult to get into one of the good paying LTLs. I would probably go with UPS and work your way up. The package truck drivers make very good money. With Yellow or Roadway, you will have to endure many years of layoffs and inconsistent pay until you get enough seniority to work steady. Pay is very good, but variable for several years. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Good to know. I don't have a CDL-A yet, I have a CDL-B, with no CMV driving exp. Maybe starting out on package cars is more appropriate anyway, since they aren't as big as the commercial ones.
