Narrowed down the list...Averitt or H.O. Wolding

Hey guys. Alright, I've narrowed the playing field. After completion of my trucking school/CDL, I'm looking at H.O. Wolding and Averitt. Averitt has better equipment but Wolding has lots of options in my area. I guess I'll be applying at both places tomorrow. Stay tuned.

HO Wolding doesn't pay that well. I'd rather be a Swift driver http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...lies/bling.gif

IMHO I would try to get on with Averitt first. The quality of equipment says alot about a company.

I haven't heard anything about HO Holding, but I did talk to an Averitt driver about a month ago in Atlanta while we were both being unloaded. He wasn't all that pleased with them. He said they did allot of early morning deliveries and then would have to sit around all day waiting for a dispatch and then have to drive all night.

If you can put up with that for a year or so you can get into one of their dedicated routes and have a regular schedule if you live in the right place.

Keep in mind, Averitt pays HHG(short) miles. So subtract 2-3cpm from the pay they are offering you when comparing to companies that pay practical miles.

Good luck!

I too have talked to many disgruntled Averitt drivers. Seems that the miles are just not there anymore. Too bad. They used to be a pretty good company. Don't let the shiny equipment lure you into a bad decision.

Thanks for the info guys. Any suggestions on any other companies that I should check out? I'm trying to be home on weekends so that narrows it down a bit it seems. How's Schneider? Roehl? I noticed that Watkins-Shepard has a pretty kick butt training program for new grads but their closest terminal to me is in Atlanta and you can't take the truck home. I'm not driving 2-3 hours one way AFTER I park the truck...yeesh!

If those were my only two choices, i'd choose Averitt. I've talked to a couple of Wolding guys from my area, and all said they are doing good to get 2500 miles a week, and starting out at 27- 28 cents per mile doesnt add up enough for me, but they are home some during the week and pretty much all weekend. I've had an application in with Averitt since February, they keep telling, well kept telling me that they were waiting on the new terminal to be built in Madison before hiring anyone else in the Decatur area, so I moved on to what I think will be a better opportunity in the long run. Maverick, McElroy (home every weekend guaranteed), TMC, CT, and Werner were some of my top choices.

If wolding drivers are averaging 2500 mpw they are doing a lot better than the average averitt driver.

Averitt and Wolding....6 one way, half dozen the other ::shrug::

Jeff from JB Hunt has called me 3 times this week.....told him if he could get me on the dedicated account in Decatur, AL at 55 cents a mile i'd consider driving for them.....he laughed and I let him talk to the sound of my fone closing
