HEAVY HAUL DRIVING and Specialized Driving

Curious how does one get into Heavy Haul driving. Also possible interest in getting into hauling hazardous, dangerous, or radioactive materials. Seems like there has to be more money in this than hauling your run of the mill freight. Any suggestions on how to break into specialized hauling will be appreciated.

How long have you been driving? Most will want previous experience driving, with some of it in flatbeding before you can do heavy haul. Arrow wants you to have six months in before they will put you on their heavy haul division board. Keen Transport hauls a lot of equipment and other oversized loads, and they want two years I think. I have heard good things about Daily Express also, not sure how much experience they require. I'm sure that there are other drivers on here that can give you other good companies to look at. But I think when most companies refer to heavy haul, they are talking about permitted, oversized loads mostly, not just heavy loads. As far as hazardous, dangerous, radioactive materials, that would mostly be chemical-grade tanker, wouldn't it?(Superior, Quality Carriers) Which most of the time want at least a year of experience. Just call them up and ask.
