Bye-bye FedEx Ground

I'm a contractor with FedEx Ground and decided to quit being an O/O; the main reason is because I got an offer for the truck which was giving me a lot of problems so I decided to sell it. I loved working for FDX but it was wrong timing for me to become an O/O ( I wasn't ready financially if you get what I'm trying to say)
Anyways before going to FDX I worked for a company in NC that covers 6 states in the East delivering to c-stores and such and made good money. So I decided to go back to a similar outfit only that this time with a much bigger and better company; Mclane Grocery out of Rocky Mount, NC.
Anyways I just wanted to post this and please feel free to post any opinions or questions who might have about either company (FDX or Mclane). As far as I'm concerned both companies are great, totally different but great.

When I was with Central Reefer I delivered quite a bit to McLane DCs.

Sounds like a good job.

BOL to ya!

I did for a little while, but I needed to make more money than what I was doing at SEFL. Don't get me wrong it was a great job at a great company just not my cup of tea.

Davenport,
Are you already employed with Mclane Carolina?
If so is the nite dispatcher still David? I came to Rocky Mount from the Phoenix division when they opened the doors in Jan. '97. Was 6 on the board until circumstances and health gave me an early retirement. I spent 10 years with Mclane and I do miss it. Great place, great job, great benefits, one of the best 401k around. 10-4 on the really long days, but with that kind of paycheck to me it was worth it.
If the number one man is still Bobby T. tell him Alan Brott said hello. Encourage him to get on this board. Would be good to hear from him.
Enjoy the ride!

Sounds good, think once I get the years accedent free I'll have to look that way. Was talking to another Mclane driver and he likes it. Told me how it works and was a little reluctant becuse you start out on standby but if you do well enough on standby I might just have to give it a shot eventualy

The secret to getting off of stand-by is to show the senoir drivers that you run with that you are a good driver and not afraid of hard work. Heck, I even took some not so great drivers because they worked their butt off. In that business the harder the worker the better permanent ride you get. Good luck if you make the leap.
