I drove for Barr Nunn for a little over 8 months. I found their equipment to be great.
Their fueling procedures are the best I have ever seen. They give you a Qualcom listing of every fuel stop available in a state, and you choose which one you would like to use.
The miles were really up and down.
I know this business has slow times and FAT times, but the industry's ups and downs didn't seem to correspond to my dispatches.
I sat in Springfield, MA for 3 days over the Easter Holiday, and I was on the Southeastern Hometime Fleet,..... yeah, MA is in their SE Fleet.
I also spent 2 days waiting in K.C. for a load to get me to their terminal in IA. I thought THAT was inexcussable.
Anyway, I was home for most weekends, and enjoyed the fueling solutions and the equipment.
After many discussions with other Barr Nunn drivers, It appeared I had a new dispatcher and he just hadn't gotten the hang of the whole "continuity in dispatch" thing.
I spoke with my fleet manager and decided, based on his responses, that I could do better elsewhere.
If push came to shove, I would probably work for them again, except I would handle any problems with them face to face at the Iowa Terminal, where they couldn't just dismiss my questions and complaints as easily as they could over the phone.
Oh yeah, you will spend A LOT of time in tiny, cramped docks designed for 48 foot trailers and smaller.
I can't even count the times I was sent to New Jersey with a 53 ft trailer and the notes on the Qualcom specifically stated "No trailers over 48 FT".
Again, that was chalked up to an inexperienced dispatcher.
They run the East Coast heavy, and you will be in PA and NJ most of the time.
They do have some really heavy loads of water that run out of Florida, and that always helped to break the monotony of being in Jersey.
I hope this helps you out some.
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me here on the site.
Good Luck!

I have been with Barr-Nunn for the past 8 months and they have been great for me...I have a stack of pretty healthy check stubs to prove they have been good to me. They keep me busy in a nice truck...i am getting 40.5 cents per mile base pay on OTR(pays less for home every weekend regional) and extra on short haul. As with any company, you gotta have a good dispatcher that you get along with and i do, i drive hard and deliver on time for him and he keeps me busy in return.
I have been home on the day i asked to be home for the amount of days i want to be home with no questions asked every single time. I just took a week off with no earned vacation time and they didnt even ask me why or tell me i was crazy, just routed me straight home. They are a very driver friendly company.
You will get lower mileage on the regional stuff if you look to get home every weekend. i run 2 weeks out, home every other friday until monday and while i am out, they keep my wheels turning pretty good. My dispatcher never bothers me on the qualcom, he sends me a trip, i accept and deliver it and thats it, I dont hear from homebase unless I ask them something. They treat you alot more like a capable adult at this place then what i hear about other companies and what i experienced with my previous companies.
Every company has drivers that like the place and drivers that are pissed just because they had to wake up.....I am one of the happy ones at Barr-Nunn and most of the other drivers i run into seem to be doing good there as well.
I will be more than happy to answer any other questions That i can for you while i am in over the weekend, just shoot me some PM's and i will get back to you as quickly as possible over the weekend.

He was saying that even though Barr-Nunns terminal was close to home he wouldn't want to work there.

Yeah, I understand that...I just dont understand his point in posting that...He never specified if he actually worked there and the post starter wanted opinions of current and past drivers. If he hasnt worked there then that post is not worth squat and if he has worked there his post still is worth much without explaining why it was so horrible for him.
