Post US Xpress Orientation
 

Well as promised, here is the outcome of orientation, and some advice for those who are looking to sign on with US Xpress.

After 3 days of orientation and another 2 days of waiting to find out if I have the job, I was denied! UGH! I am so bothered by this one fact!

Advice:
- Have all your jobs (company, address, and phone number)

- If you have **ANY** medical issues, have a letter from your doctor clearing you.

- If you have had any accidents, regardless of fault, have the accident report.

- If you have any discrepancies in employment, be prepared to explain them in detail.

- If you have any gaps in employment, be prepared to explain them.

- If you have worked for Swift (don't know about others) and where fired, be prepared to explain to them why you where fired as Swift only tells them weather it was voluntary or involuntary.

- Be prepared to be called out for corrections numerous times.

- If you are getting out of training, make sure you have your certificate stating your training.

- No matter how much information you give them, some how it does not make it in to their system. Be patient, very patient!

- Make copies of your taxi receipts, they will re-reimburse you for that. If you are not hired, and this is what I was told, they will mail you a check.

A little information about their policies/equipment:

- If you have Sleep Apnea, they *Require* a note from your physician that prescribed your CPAP stating that you are clear to drive.

- They allow up to a 1750 Watt inverter. They will install it, along with the cabling. However, inverter installation takes second priority to truck repairs.

- There are some trucks that are running a clutch (Freightliner) with a paddle shift.

- The Peterbilt utilizes a push button shift mounted on the side of the seat.

- The Kenworth T600 utilizes an old fashioned style automatic shifter mounted on the dash board.

- I do not know what the Volvo's run.

- Most of their fleet is 05 and newer. I drove an 06 Peterbilt and loved it I might add!

In closing, hang in there, the company is a wonderful company, and I will be looking into them again when there is more experience under my belt. I hope this helps those who are deciding to go with USX.


P.S. If you go to the orientation at the Colton, California terminal, they put you up in the Best Western in Rialto. They are supposed to supply coffee and doughnuts, but they waited until we left. They will also supply you with lunch, which is not too bad!

Amen to that! I was talking to a guy who was in orientation with me, and he changed how I was handling the whole process.

He stated, "If you have no hopes or dreams then you will not be disappointed!"

Now, I wanted the job more than anything, but, when they told me that I didn't have the job, I wasn't heart-broken.

There are plenty of other companies out there!

I still might go to may trucking myself. US xpress put truck abandonment on my dac and now i have to take them court . sometimes im so glad i live in california

They hold virtually everyone for five days and will look for anything to keep from hiring you. Theres better places to work out there....

Of course there's worse too.

Yeah they had some pretty interesting policies. But what company doesn't!

Well, I'm impressed that you're still fairly upbeat even though you were turned down. Most people would have come in here ranting and raving about how they were screwed... It sounds to me like it was explained to you why they weren't hiring you and you understood the reasons why. Good job!

I am surprised that they go to such lengths to find a reason not to hire you. This is only surprises me because of how big of a company they are. IMO, all companies no matter the industry should work this way. They can tell at a glance that you're qualified, now what else is in your closet? Let's make sure we're making the correct decision.

Keep your head up, find number 2 on your list and hopefully you can get in with them. It doesn't sound like you burnt any bridges so if you have aspirations of going to USX down the road I'm sure they'll take another look at you once you've been with someone else for a while and kept your nose clean.

Well, I have gotten to a point where I am going to be as all drivers should be, and that is Professional. I do wish I got the job, but hey, there are other fish in the sea, and it may turn out to be a better career move for me in the long run :wink:

Besides, making a 1200 mile trip to get to a terminal is not a good idea. At least with some of the other companies I am 200-400 miles away!

I want a letter staaing the only thing that would disqualify me would be a UA or physical before I'd ever show up for orientation. why waste my time or theirs?
