Star Transport (Morton, IL the red one)
Hi all
I have a friend in CDL school right now and he was asking me about Star Transport out of Morton, IL. Does anyone have any info on this company? Like how do they treat their drivers, pay, home time where do they mostly run etc... I tried to help him myself, but the only thing I know about them is they mostly run 387 Petes Any help is much appreciated! Thanks |
wow almost 70 people have viewed this, and not one response :-(

I started with Star and there is a ton of info on this site about them, just have to do a search for them. Descent company, nice trucks, good miles but low pay. I have a buddy that still drives for them and he's pretty happy with them. He is going on 2 years with them, got a brand new truck after a year but he bust's his ass for a paycheck.
For a new driver they are a good place to get your start and then move on, but there are better company's for new drivers if you can get hired by them. They were the first company to give me a pre-hire so I went with them, I didn't do any research I just wanted to get started. BOL |
I live right by Morton Il and am looking at Star after I get out of school too. All I really know is they haul for Caterpillar and John Deer.
Anyone else know anything? As far as I know it's ok place to start out at in van. Any other Central Illinoisans? Would really like to do some flat bedding but the fellow that visited from TMC didn't impress me at all...... and Roehl has forced dispatch so they are out of my 1st pick list Considering Maverick but must find out more. |

You will find just about every beginner trucking comapny is forced dispatch . I've heard at CCC/Shaffer they let you choose btween 3 loads . What I liked about Roehl was the hometime options , if you were getting burnt out with the OTR you just went to 7 on 7 off .then back OTR once you felt like it . |
Roehl isn't out totally. A good friend recommended them but I just plan on looking more. Your thoughts on the OTR and 7 and 7 sound interesting.

I drove for Roehl for about 3 years , there pay isn't bad and I did OTR for awhile (out 11 home 3) and just got burnt out . So I swicthed to 7 on , 7 off making .38 cpm , the same as OTR , the catch is you need to commute to the nearest terminal which for you would be st.louis or gary,in . I made 31k on the 7/7 and around 44k doing OTR the year before . |
Newbie worried about forced dispatch?
Let me tell you, EVERY load is a forced dispatch. Unless you like putting your dispatcher in a bind, ya know the guy who controls your miles  I am an o/o and I don't have forced dispatch...but I do  I know its an oxymoron, but I can elaborate if needed. Anyways, I had a friend who worked for Star and loved it. She left Werner for Star and was happy with the hometime and was home damn near every weekend. BOL |
