Melton Trucking

anyone familiar w/this company or have worked for them before? They're flatbed....what's the biggest difference (other than strapping & tarping) between van & flatbed. Any straightout difference for miles?

I asked about Melton last week and got no response. I like flatbed better because you tend to get more miles, no long lines at the docks or pick up terminals, and mostly hands free loading and unloading. The down side is tarping, strapping or tieing down with chain . the loads can slip on you, you have to stop all the time and check your loads(first time is after 20 miles, then about a couple hours each time after that). But would like to hear from someone who has ever driven for Melton. I know they are located out of Oklahoma, and have a terminal in El Paso...lol

Melton is the sister company of CFI . The couple of drivers I talked to didn't seem to have any problems working there . That's all I got , maybe some one else will chime in soon .

Most of what I've heard about them is positive. The major difference is that flatbed is a lot more physically demanding. You won't have a hard time keeping your figure or sleeping at night.

The story I've heard is the two owners married each other.

So I'v been told , don't know all the details . I do come across Melton trucks parked in our ( CFI ) El Paso and Lancaster yards now and then .

Thanks for the replies...I was beginning to think that they existed in the mind of their recruiters only!!!! (same as deBoer, don't think that I ever got a response about them...)

Glad to hear there's some sort of romantic back drop to the whole story  :D

There is some type of familial relationship between CFI and Melton, although I don't know the specifics.

I have seen Melton Trucks at CFI terminals before. They both operate excellent equipment, and it has been my experience that both CFI drivers and Melton drivers are "a cut above" many of their competitors.

I have always found then to be very friendly, very courteous, and very helpful.

No, I'm not a recruiter for either company!!
:D

Well, here is the inside scoop from the Melton side of the house...the owner of Melton is a former higher-up at CFI and the companies share a very good working relationship - hence the reason you may see their trucks in each others' yards! 8)

Thanks for the info on the other stuff!
