License on my own???

I'm thinking about applying with Schneider and before I do I'd like to know......would it make a difference if I go get my license on my own wait till I go through their school?? Where do they give their schools at? The closest yard they have to me is Everygreen, AL. Thanks,

Shawn

Getting your license on your own is what I recommend. If you get it yourself and decide to quit them after 6 months you are not stuck in the stay or pay quicksand. I studied for my exam, borrowed a truck and got the license myself. Didn't owe anybody anything afterwards.

If you mean going through school on your own dime then yes I too reccomend this approach. Just make sure that the school is a good one.

If you are talking about reading the manual, taking the writtens, and borrowing a truck to do the skills tests with, then do not bother. None of the major companies will hire you and the insurance carriers of the minor ones will not insure you or charge so much they could not afford you.

I would check into the WIA program at your local unemployment office and see if they could pay your way through CDL school.
That way you wouldn't owe the company anything if it doesn't work out.
And you would still have a CDL school diploma that allot of companies like to see.

school or no school

I aquired my cdl on my own with no school and spent 2 months looking for a job. I finally had a little luck and Arrow Trucking is giving me a chance. I qualified for training with Swift. However, I passed the state test and still do not fill comfortable going into orientation.
