UPDATE!

Come one! Come all! Step right up to Mcleod Express & get the f**king of your life!
Here's the story: needed to get the truck fixed (loses air & air lines froze up because the air dryer was broke) but dispatch kept sending me trips. I turned down three trips & let them know that the truck needed fixed. I told night dispatch (who supposed left a note for day dispatch) & the shop so where the hell's the communication on their end?
Get the truck into shop but it's STILL not fixed and keeps losing air! But they send me on a trip to effin' Wisconsin! Needless to say I gotta shorthaul a few of their Illinois trips before I get my load going home (that delivers early Monday morning) all the way to the East Coast! So yeah, I got another one of those 24 hour weekends coming up and I'll have to watch my hours all next week. I worked all last weekend, by the way!

The worst part of this is, I run into a guy who lives in Illinois and has to deliver a load to PA near where I live, but they're sending HIM there & sending me to Wisconsin. These people are geniuses, aren't they?

Yeah, maybe, in upside down world!

Oh, BTW, don't get speeding tickets with this company either. I met two guys who were put on a 72 hour suspension for that. And, no, you don't get to go home either-you have to sit your butt in the yard or at the nearest truck stop if you wanna keep your job.

Just want to give everyone a WARNING out there!

I'm sorry to hear that things have not changed here. I see ads for them all the time lately on Facebook, guess they are still having that turnover problem.

If people tell you to stay away from this company, you better well believe it! Anyone who gets on here and praises McLeod Express are just either recruiters, dispatchers, or planners. You guys are not fooling anybody. Been here for over a year and I have not ran across one driver that likes the place!
People always say to go with the smaller operations because they will treat you better. Sad to say but this smaller operation doesn’t! They simply lie and cheat their drivers out of every nickel and dime they can. Every day it is a fight to get paid, a fight to get miles enough to make the guarantee, a fight to make sure you can run legal. I have driven for other companies-I’m not some newbie driver. This is the first company I worked for that expects the drivers to call brokers, call shippers, call consignees, do customer service’s job, do the dispatcher’s job, do the planner’s job plus drive the truck!
Not to mention that they intentionally screw around with the drivers. They are intentionally abusive, they lie, cheat, and take advantage of the driver. They offer a guarantee but will not give you the miles (short-haul you for days in Illinois and Indiana) and then will find some little excuse to snatch it from you. It seems like the people in the office have a real dislike for drivers. The owner of the company tells drivers that he hired good people to run his company FOR him and that’s why he refuses to talk to his drivers. Yeah, run it into the ground! I would not be surprised to find out that people are sabotaging it from within. Seriously, there is no reason for a company that has been around for more than a decade to be ran like some dog and pony show. I just don’t get it with these people.
The saddest part about all of this is, McLeod Express has the potential to be a really good company and start to grow but they are shrinking because people within the company don’t seem to take their jobs seriously enough nor will they treat the drivers like they should be treated. As a transportation company, the drivers should be treated with respect or the whole operation fails. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this company fold like a cheap suit in the near future! If it wasn’t for all the lying, cheating, and stealing of money from the drivers, it probably would have folded already- that is the only way that it has stayed afloat!

sorry to see your company is giving you fits...I'm sure you'll leave the first opportunity you get

TireKicker83 01-30-2013 12:55 AM

Yes, I'm gone...on to greener pastures! The problem with this company is that if they spent as much time trying to do the driver right as they do trying to do us wrong, they'd be a great company. All they want to do is send us to sh*tholes to haul heavy (sometimes overweight) & then wonder why loads are late. They want to sit drivers for hours before dispatching and then send them loads with impossible times! Almost all my late calls with this company has been due to incompetent planning and that's the God's honest truth. It sucks there are two sets of rules with this company...one for drivers, one for the second floor. Why is it that they can mess up all they want, but if a driver does...it's the end of the world? Why is it that they get plenty of hometime on the weekends, yet they want cut into ours? Why is it that they brought me into the terminal a day later than I requested when I was quitting? This is some of the reasons why they can't keep good drivers!

Good for you, TireK! I left that sh*thole too! That place doesn't care about the drivers and it starts from Mark and goes all the way down. They sure as heck don't have any integrity either. They want to say you get home three out of four weekends? Ha Ha! There has been plenty of times that they have kept me out over the weekend and the next , they've barely given me the 34 hour reset. They don't respect drivers as human beings and that is sad for a company as small (and shrinking) as they are.

They are a good company and if any new prospects reads my message, please give McLeod a try if you are looking for a good job. All you gotta do is what is expected of you and the rest will all fall into place.

Oh yeah, that's a company dispatcher writing that. :P

I've been driving for about 18 years and with Mcleod for 4 years. I also dispatched for Warner for a couple years before I went back to the road. I have my bachelor's in business management, but I always loved to be on the road so that's where I am today.

After all the companies I've been with, I'll tell you the truth:
If you are a road rookie or you need constant attention and can't help yourself(logwise or taking care of business), Mcleod is not the place for you. All these guys leaving messges on here sound like those guys who I hear about quittin all the time about stupid sh*t that they couldn't pull up their own diaper. I don't know who that recent post was that sounds like a recruiter if that's real or not, I don't know. But what he's sayin is right. If you do your job, you will be fine with this company. I live in Decatur with my wife and 2 beautiful kids and that might be why I don't have too much of a problem getting home, but there have been times where I didn't get home when I was supposed to. Something a lot of drvrs who never dispatched or brokered loads don't understand how it works is that if there aint the right freight, you can't always get where you wanna go! It's trucking!

I've never had to get the guarantee except for the 1st time 2 weeks ago during the slowest time of the freight year. I don't always see the amazing miles that everbody here wants but I averge about 2300 miles a week.

This aint a diss to anybody but lots of these truckers on here give real truckers a bad name. Mcleod aint a bad place if you know how to take care of yourself. Everybody makes mistakes at every company but Mcleod don't sit around apologizing..they just get right to work on fixin it. If you can't help yourself out, Mcleod probably don't want you anyway.

Another company man pole smoker.

K8cpa....man, you got a bad attitude. No wonder you have been unemployed so long. Hell, you called me a troll on another thread, simply because I actually tried to help you by telling you you are pretty much unhire-able, and perhaps you shouldnt keep wasting your time trying to find jobs in trucking. Hell, dude, Im an independent recruiter with 100s and 100s of driving jobs that I need to fill. If you were even the least bit hire-able, I would at least try to find you a job. Hell, thats the only way I make money, finding drivers jobs. I suppose you have two choices in life here. Keep on filling applications at driving companies, and keep getting turned down....Or you can wake your ass up and find a job in another industry.

TruthTeller 03-31-2013 11:35 PM

I'm a driver with this company....they say you get 3 out of 4 weekends at home....yeah, right....I literally worked every day in March except for three days. My hours have been crunched because I didn't even get 34 hour resets.

The second floor (office) gets treated differently than the drivers. One of the office people just bragged on their Facebook that they had a four day weekend. Gee, I would like to have that kind of time to rest and recuperate.

Another recent issue is that they yanked the guarantee away because Good Friday is a recognized holiday for McLeod yet I worked Friday and I didn't see anything on my Quaalcomm about a holiday bonus or getting paid time and a half. In fact, I drove their truck until Saturday just to get home.

Do you really want to work for a company that doesn't have integrity and disrespects the drivers so much?
