Do any of you know if there are any trainers available in nc. I live about an hour norht of charlotte right off of I-85. been reading the post from the beginning and seen where some of you had to drive a long ways to meet up with your trainers. Gotta do what I gotta do but sure would be nice to have one close. Thanks for any replies and all the good info on here.

My Husband drives for tmc. He's long haul. And he normally comes home loaded and then delivers in the metro Detroit area after a week-end home. I have seen a few trucks in our area, (port Huron) And there is a driver in the St. Clair area too. There was a TMC driver parked a block from where I work this morning. I have also passed one on Lakeshore on my way to work, so that driver was headed into the thumb area someplace. But I don't see very many. The loads around here must be for line haul drivers.

I see what you mean. The map isn't very detailed. Call recruiting on Monday. They can tell you exactly what the boundry line is by Highway name.

anthony1995 02-16-2007 03:47 PM

Yet another question here from a guy considering TMC. Does TMC hire teams? My brother and I both are interested in teaming with TMC but keep in mind both of us would be newbies and that we don't haver our CDL's just yet so we'd need training. Thanks.

nrvsreck 02-16-2007 03:54 PM

Supposedly, the long-haul division does teams. That's just according the TMC website. Wouldn't be much point in it in line-haul since most runs are less than 600 miles. Only 1000+ mile runs would benefit from teams. Honestly, no one makes a truck big enough for me to share with another man. No how, no way.

anthony1995 02-16-2007 03:59 PM

Thanks nrvsreck. I appreciate it. I have long term goals with this regard to getting into this industry but I obviously need to learn it first. I'm SOOOOO torn between TMC and Maverick. Since I'll be living in North Alabama soon, it looks like I'm eligible to be home weekends. That is a MAJOR concern. Decisions decisions!! I'm so torn!! ha

Thanks again.

waco's sunshine 02-16-2007 06:28 PM

Not sure about the Canada or Mexico stuff. After the week of "winter hell" you won't get me excited about Canada. Drivers will need a passport soon to go to Canada from what I heard. It would be cool to have the terminals. The release seemed to imply that the companies would operate as separate business units, for now.

I am just a link in the big chain; not in the know.[/quote]

Ya I had heard about the pasport thing... heard if flying got to have it already..

Yes more terminals would be a plus.....

Understand about just being a link in the chain....

Thanks for the information. I haven't had too many people reply about Michigan! I was wondering if your husband delivers around the Grand Rapids area? Is your husband linehaul or long haul? Does he get home often for the weekends? Thanks again san!

Jim, I leave tonight about midnight for DM. It was the longest six weeks and the shortest six weeks. I had a lot of fun, learned a lot and saw much of the country. It seems like we got stuck in a rut of night driving, driving in the snow and maintenance problems out the wazoo. This is unusual for a trainee in his six weeks. We had to replace two trailer bags, service two trailers, full service on the tractor, replace a water pump, replace a clutch, put it back in for the same problem as they fixed the water pump, it was the line from the cooler in the radiator that was out, not the water pump. And we had to replace one tire. Of course the truck was running fine until we had the full maintenance completed. And when we had full service on the trailer, you guessed it, we changed trailers. Although, all the maintenance was unusual, I'm happy to have had the experience. I had a variety of loads and almost every weather situation imaginable. I have just one more hurdle, the driving and backing test at DM. I don't think they will be a problem. I thought I was ready my second week, I'm sure I'm ready now. The only thing that worries me is slow freight. In another few days I will be in my truck. I'll post the number, so maybe I can meet a few CAD members out on the road. The operation was a breeze, wasn't it. Costly, but no big deal. In four weeks after your surgery TMC will accept you. After working on a farm for years you will think flatbedding is as easy as I do. Good luck and I'll keep on posting!

Hey guys, me again...

I'm finally on my First load, and am happy to have gotten here... The training process is LOOONNNGGGG... Although by no means unnecessary. The things i have learned are vital to this industry, and to this job itself.

My first load is insulation, and it goes from bremen, in, to n. little rock, ar

reason is, that I didn't want to fight the bad weather up the I-70 line to get home (maybe would have gotten home by saturday night, and could have left sundey afternoon) so i rather make my paycheck nice for the next week. Right now i'm in mt vernon, il, getting a 34 reset, and i'm off to AR tomorrow sometime. It's pretty nice here 30, and snowing, but 30 is much nicer than what i've experienced the last few days... lol...

So wish me luck, and again, i'll update the pictures to include my first load, and my truck.

Cheers

JollyVolly
He rarely delivers inside Michigan, but he is long haul so he is only in this area if he is routed to our home for the week end. This is the Port Huron Area. 60 miles ?? north of detroit. And no he doesn't get home very often. Maybe once a month. But that is him, he is a workaholic. I think he could get home more if he pushed his FM. But on the other hand he was one of his FM's top 5 earners for Jan. He runs hard from one drop to the next. Rarely even stays at the truck stops. stays in the parking lot of his drop so he is loaded and gone asap. Let me know if you want to give him a call or you can also e-mail him. [email protected]. I'm not clear on if you work at tmc? or looking for advice about tmc. Or maybe just info on tmc in Michigan. Anyway good luck to you.

Good old Bremen, IN. I went there a few times. They were very strict about using harnesses when you're on top of the load. As much as I hate them, I wish more shippers had harnesses available.

I think I'd rather spend the weekend in Effingham, than Mt. Vernon. Just sayin'. 8)

san415, thanks for the info. yah i don't work for TMC, but i have been looking at it. I live just outside of Grand Rapids and would be able to run linehaul, if that map is accurate! i was just curious what freight was running in MI, or what drivers ran like in MI thanks again and i wrote down your hubbies e-mail!!

Well finally made it through the 2 weeks of orientation in Des Moines IA. Cold as SH!T. Been hard to keep up with everything they throw at you in that little of a time. Got to meet BND and Vonseggern, Nice guys. Top notch, too. Good luck BND. Only 19 out of 41 students made it. Ouch! Got hooked up with my trainer and going out this Sunday nite at 7:00pm. Found out he is a veteran trainer. He has been training for 7 years and working for TMC for 9. Sounds like a great opportunity! Well here I come 6 weeks. Will keep posting as I can.

Just got a prehire From TMC , I am Recent grad From NETTTS in North Andover Mass. I am encouraged by there program, it is a little harder than I thought it would be to get a job in my area, I realize now I will have to bite the bullet now and go OTR. Dose anyone know about TMC Northeast division, I have been on flatbed's Fred site and has sum good information, But it does not talk about how long you have to be OTR before you can in this area. Does seem like TMC is a good company to start my driving career with, Just wish I could bring my dog for the ride. Thanks Chef Trev

Chef? I was a chef for 25+ years.

I think we have a Home Depot account in Norwood that is either going or just starting. Rumor has it that we are working on Certainteed in Norwood too. More that likely, when I drop my load off in Manchester tomorrow, I will end up at Certainteed for a live load.

For some reason companies like the OTR experience. I guess it shows your ability to plan.

Most of the guys from NETTS do pretty well.

Good luck.

I am having a career change, I got got tired of working with illegal immigrants that don't speak English and think you should speak there language, last I checked this is America, we speak English here. Anyway back to the new career, I have read that Von you are the only trainer in New England. And I am excited about TMC. Maybe I will be lucky to get yourself as a trainer. I live in central Worcester County, and seems like you get home when you want. Chef Trev

You'll see alot of this in trucking. Especially at the shippers. Even more so in the south.

I didn't mind the foreigners. Just got sick of people not showing up at all!

Jumbo 02-18-2007 12:22 PM

Just a short question. What ever happened to the other divisions of TMC. Such as KTL, Yellowstone, and Fortune Express. Were they sold off or just combined into one under one banner. I believe that Yellowstone hauled aircraft parts as part of their operation, does TMC still do that?

JBenson2 02-18-2007 12:28 PM

Yellowstone is still around - even though TMC owns them. I just did a trailer swap with a Yellowstone driver. He has the name Yellowstone on the side of his tractor.

All right I am a newb here and have only posted once or twice to this thread, BUT why does noone want to respond to me. Anytime that anyone asks a question or makes a statement you guys are always there to help out. I asked myself why don't they talk to me. My hair's blond not red so I can't be the red headed step child I take a bath regularly so I don't stink ( and yes i had a friend smell me to make sure ) I havn't insulted anyone ( that I know of ). So I will kindly ask again.

Does anyone know of any trainers in the charlotte or greensboro nc areas. I know I could ask my recruiter but you guys and gals have helped all the other newbs so I am bound and determined to get one of you to help me.

So please someone help me.

And yes I am pouting :D

I went to Nettts (CT) and am in my 4th week with my trainer. I, too found it near impossible to get a decent job in my area (without 1-2 yrs exp), so I chose to go OTR with TMC. So far, I am happy.........I can't wait to get into my own truck and making some decent $$. A lot of drivers I spoke to hate driving in the northeast, so hopefully that can help folks like us get home easier.

good luck jeff

how is everyone doing? well i am stuck in fresno, ca. it seems that some folks cant understand that a forklift cant lift a 5200lb ac unit. let alone 3 of them. so i have to sit and wait for a crane to come out sometime tommorrow. but at least i will get paid for sitting and i got a hotel room. so anyway, did everyone hear that xm and siruis have merged? should be a little better now.

waco's sunshine 02-19-2007 07:44 AM

Well ifn you got to be stuck it's better in Fresno then in Snow....

I'm notsure what I think about the XM/Sir. merger... I hope that they don't get the idea of runnin up the sub. rates now that there isn't any competition..

we BTDT on the forklift verses crane adventure...
someppl can't add far enought to understand that large weight = needs a heavyduty lifter

Any advice on the decision?

mf2004champ, TMC's trucks are much nicer than Werner's even if you don't like black. The pay is better also, much better.

Pretty trucks are great and all that but you need to do some research beyond who has the prettiest trucks and see who has the best company. And between the two you mentioned it's TMC hands down.
