Gee , did ya notice all the happy Crete drivers? I spent about 18 years doing auto body work before my hands and knees gave up on me so I moved into the office. I hated every minute, so I took an other job selling parts to bodyshops, not bad but they just couldn't (wouldn't) pay me what I wanted so here I am happy Crete driver that found a dediacated run and I'm home every day and making good money.
I've even got most of my bills paid off now!!!!

yep I still do , started driving coming up on a year now ,I was 46with a 15 year senioriy at a good plant ,good job, with good pay and benifits. Got my license on my own(no school) and landed a job pulling a flat bed , I think one of the hardest things is have to learn every thing on my own and still learning, from shifting to tarping and load securement to winter driving. I'm home evry weekend so that is a plus and if I get the right load coming from the west I have to go right past my house so I;mable to stop at home and surprise my wife every once in a while. Any regrets, sometimes, but i think it's mostly guilt, hoping someday my wife will decide to leave her job and come on the road all the time, she has come a few times and really enjoyed herself, I know i'll retire driving

It is really nice seeing such a positive topic like this. Now I just need to decide to make the move into trucking. I am curently a heavy equipment field mechanic, and the only thing stopping me would be the initial pay cut and leaving my wife.

Thanks for all the great, positive info everybody and drive safe!

Jeffro

Jeffro...Amen to that! Most of what you see on here is so negative, it makes you want to find a noose and hang yourself from a ceiling fan...ha! It's very good to see people on here that enjoy their job. I desperatly want to give trucking a try but I'm scared. I make more money now than I ever will in trucking (at least as a company driver) so I think that along with leaving my wife for so long hold me back much like you. GOtta tell ya though, every time I roll past those trucks on the higway...I get a tingling in my soul!

I very much like my job, the people I work with, the money I make, and my wife is even happier as well..... I intend to stay with Superior Carriers until I retire for good!

Ice BAD, no go. One of the reasons why I like my company and job so much is because when the "weather" is bad....and it is not safe to move, I stop of my own accord, send a message that I am "shutting down" due to bad weather....and from that moment on.... I am on the clock being paid hourly....until it is safe to move again. 8) I don't throw "iron" either.... don't have any! 8)

I haul grain local. 1500-2000 miles a week. I really like it. I like it more after getting on here and realizing I'm pretty lucky.
