I spoke with a Blue thunder driver last week. He told me that he made pretty good money, said last year that he made $89,000 and was home every other day. He said I could make $60,000 my frst year with the company if I wanted to work hard. I asked him about the hometime and he basically said it upto the driver when and where you go home. the possiblity of being home everynight is there but the income will be low. because those guys (@ blue thunder) dont make the miles. He said for him to make $89,000 he would stay out a few days, sometimes 2wks (by choice).
It all sounds to good to me but the sleeper on his truck didnt look comfortable @ all. But for $89,000 a year I think I could deal with it too.
I was thinking of getting into this industry as I hear its good money and great hometime.
ronjon619, I C that u work for Waggoners, I am looking @ them, I spoke with someone @ the Canton,MS plant and they told me I must come in to fill out the app, but b4 I do that there are some questions I forgot to ask her. So guess I will ask you.
1) Do they have a true OTR or will I be getting home pretty regular. I want to be home more but I wouldn't mind running out to the west coast for a couple weeks and then back home for about three days. I guess what I am trying to say is can I pick and choose loads from a load board @ the plants or Do I have to run what they give me.
2) whats the hometime like, do you have to stay out for a certain amount of time b4 you take off or can u take off what ever days u need as long as you dont abuse it.
3) what kind of equipment do they have? I am 6'3 so a tight sleeper or cab would be uncomfortable for me, But if the price is right I can manage, LOL
4) whats a typical day like for you? (ex, Loading , Unload, Drive, etc)
5) In your best estimate what can a new guy make in his/her first year. and whats the average after that.
Thanks for your time and have a nice/Safe day.....
