Ok i need a little advice. i have 2.5 years otr experience. I have not driven since jan09 . I was with swift and quit them then got the letter from secretary of state stating my cdl was being revoked because of the whole millington tn fiasco. I have two minor preventables on my dac one d.o.t recordeble one that isnt. I wasnt cited in either case by police. But i just got a careless driving a month ago in my personal vehicle. I cant get it dropped its already a done deal. Does anyone know of a medium to a bigger size fleet that would hire me? i tried england and kb and they said the careless needs to be 3 years old...Is this the policy of most of the bigger carriers? am i sol? Yeah...you're done for at least three years.

Even if the companies were willing to hire you, the insurance companies won't insure you. And, after 3 years of no experience, you get to go through school all over again.

I don't know about that. I just saw an old buddy of mine who had lost his job because he had too many preventables. Anyway, after waiting three years he tried to find a company who would hire him. He was going to pay his way to take a refresher course, but no one would touch him. Thus, he is ***** out of luck and he don't know what he is going to do.

Anyway, it's a good thing he checked first before paying for a refreshers course.

And, what are they doing about DUIs now? I overheard a conversation between a couple of O/Os. One said he's "grandfathered in" for this year, but next year, his insurance company will no longer insure him to drive one of his own trucks. Is there something to that? He was saying his DUI is something like 18 years old, and he has not had one drop of alcohol in the last 10 years. If he hires a guy to drive one of his trucks, as of the first of this year, his insurance company says, "NO DUI, EVER". Just his insurance company or industry wide?

I haven't heard anything about it being industry wide. So if I had to guess I would guess it was just that particular insurance company.

Nevertheless, the Democrats are in power and they are addicted to creating new and tighter regulations. They want to micro-manage everything they possibly can.

Update: I just crossed paths with my old buddy again and Covenant Transport hired him. He said they provided a free refresher's course, put him through training again, and he is now back on the road as a solo driver. He couldn't be happier. I'm glad to see it worked out for him. I hope he can stay safe.
