No one said they're modifying their logs to the point that it lets them run 24/7. Most people that I've talked to say they change it enough to let them run an extra hour or two that they've lost while sitting in a dock somewhere because of someone else's fault.

Is it wrong? Yup
Do I do it myself? I plead the 5th.

I know of a former driver from WI, that got into an accident some years ago. Because of road construction in Milwaukee, he was about 20 minutes over on his 70. Five years in prison for FELONY MANSLAUGHTER. And, of course, he lost EVERYTHING... House, family and all.

Here is another story now maybe you migh want to understand what can happen if you run illegal (yes fudging by 1-2 hours is illegal).

Now pushing it this far is really asking for it. So if you just totally ignore the Hours of Service regulations and run as you please, lets hope you make it and you don't kill anyone else in the mean time. The guilt you will carry as the truck driver in the court room

I feel for the driver, he probably didn't have anyone telling him what could happen if he ran illegal. He probably had someone telling him I don't care here is how you get around it and laughing when he got passed the scales.

God how I would love to personally talk to this guy and find out how he really felt then and how he feels now

Do you really believe that these guys don't know what could happen? Anybody that doesn't live under a rock already knows that drivers have ended up in prison.

No believe me there is many that have no clue that running illegal can put them in prison. I also know many that are fully aware of it but continue to do it for the money.

I just try to out weigh. I am broke as hell but I am not robbing the bank like i dream of daily because what I do make is better than making nothing at all and sitting in prison. Which is the same the truck driver should do!

Any driving school I've ever heard of is very good about drilling a few very important facts into new students heads. Namely our instructor showed us news articles about drivers who were in violation, had a wreck where someone was killed and the driver went to prison, for a long time.

Thats the "new" drivers. You have the drivers out there that have no idea it can lead to this.

Many drivers "think" the instructor is saying the stuff just to please DOT if they was sitting in the room under cover. Seriously DOT will sit in the orientation and training classes under cover. Sometimes they are polite enough to allow an introduction.
Driver think the company says it but don't mean it. When I say it I stress I mean what I am saying and you will be in trouble if you leave here and run illegal even if it's next week. I still get drivers routed right back to Indy almost ready to lose their job. I ask why? They say I didn't think you was that serious about it. I said duh I only told you 20 times how serious we are! 50% of the drivers say I thought you had to say that. I said nope! Others just say they had to do it for money, get load there, emergency @ home or just not caring at all!

I am serious you dont know how many drivers do not realize I am not bsing when it comes to logs versus prison. Yeap it takes an accident sometimes but unfortunatelyl you could be at the wrong place at the wrong time and you can be held accountable even if the accident wasn't your fault.

It's a messed up world in the trucking and most of it's because of log auditors not training properly, companies asking drivers to run illegal and saying behind the scene just make it look good. There for driver think just make it look legal
