How you Spend your Holidays

What are your Holiday Traditions if you have anything?? If you don't celebrate what do you do?

I am a Christian, but just don't happen to recognize Christmas, New Year's, or even Easter as Holidays. I do enjoy the sentiments though. :)
If we get some ice on the Lakes, I'll be ice fishing.

Ok well I don't have real traditions but we do like to drive around to see Good yard displays. I do like to read the story about Advent and light candles other then that I almost always go to church on New Years Eve for the prophecy update. I know not a real partier.

Ditto, except we do still attend a family celebration earlier in December, mainly because its the only time we get to see half of my family. If hubby actually gets to stay home that long we will probably be at my mothers, doing work for my grandfather :)

Usually we're just all together for the week. I always take that week off as vacation time, so I have lots of time to spend with family. This year will be a bit different. I'm sending my wife and daughter on a trip to Mexico City with my wife's brother and parents. That leaves me home with the other 6 for a week. :) I plan on doing some surprise redecorating while she's gone and I'll have 6 helpers. So when she gets back, she'll either love it or I'll be looking for a new place to live. :) You know how wives can be about things like that.

I bake cookies to give to teachers and neighbors. This year I had "helpers" so there is a lot of sprinkles on the cookies  .

As for Christmas eve/day, we see the grandparents. As a kid my family used to go to midnight mass, then when we got home we would open the gifts.

Well, I'm taking the week off to be with family for Christmas, you know gifts and turkey and the usual stuff.

Other than that, the only "tradition" is that I usually compose a Christmas Poem and read it sometime during the day. This year is proving difficult. But, I have a feeling that it will be about a girl outside a church, and how she might have spent Christmas alone.

Since my folks have moved from the country into a "neighborhood," I'm thinking of suggesting that we go out "Caroling." I haven't used my voice much in recent years, so it is weak, but I'd LOVE to do it! We are all somewhat musically inclined, and it would be fun!

We rarely have snow here in the South for Christmas, and won't this year, so it is hard to get into the "spirit." Of course, I wrote a poem about THAT, too..... so I have no excuse!

And then, as EVERY year, I will watch as others enjoy Christmas with their children, and I'll become acutely aware of what I have LOST all these years.... not knowing my daughter.... and I'll drink a bit. It's pretty much the same EVERY year! It's a "tradition."

But, then, I'll remember that Christmas is NOT about ME.... and then I'll be okay again.

Oh.... and of course, I'll wish ALL my friends at CAD a very Merry Christmas! Especially those with HUGE families!
