Winter Games-Sochi, Russia

What a Cold War style men's hockey game today with US-Russia. Went deep into a shootout before being settled on something like the 8th round with a US victory.

How about the men's bobsled member who has been trapped in a bathroom, of which he broke through the door to get out and 2 days later became trapped in an elevator. Great job building Russia!! Surprised the ski jumping was able to go off considering the corrupt nature it was put together. The first group built it, took the money and ran. The jumps were all wrong and shoddily constructed, it had to be all torn down and started over from scratch.

Our speed skating teams have stunk the joint up, brought out some space age suits that other countries believed were illegal because of the times we were putting up coming into the Games. Get on the track and were getting blown away, now they are changing back to some older suits.......seems to have not fixed the problem of no speed.

Anyone catch the cross country ski event where the Russian went down and broke his ski? Canadian coach timing his own guys saw it and ran out with a spare ski for his guys and gave it to the Russian so he could finish. He ended up dead last by nearly 4 minutes but the home country crowd went ape for it.

The Russians have certainly had a few problems this year with the jumps, unfinished hotel rooms, etc., Still, I think the athletes have enjoyed themselves. I was surprised at how poorly our racers have performed this year. It is hard to believe they didn't win anything. The coach giving a ski to his teams competition was a great gesture. He truly demonstrates sportsmanship and what the games should reflect.

Yes the athletes have been very at ease once everything got underway. Everyone has been so worried about security.....................outside of that they have been pretty good. Had some contentious decisions that have made for great discussions and talking points for different events. Love the sell-out crowds at the curling events!

The bobsled/luge/skeleton track has been lightning fast even after new IOC regs to slow it down. They now have 3 uphill sections to keep the speeds down after the Vancouver games where speeds were over 95 mph. Still, lugers were hitting 93 mph, imagine if they didn't have the extra uphill to slow'em down more........they'd be hitting triple digits and not able to keep them in the track. Bobsled is starting up this week!!

Our figure skating program has been Jekyl-Hyde just like a downhill skiers. Abbott had an ugly crash in figure skating, slammed down from a jump on his hip then hard into the dasher board.

Have they shown Putin bare chested yet? Arm wrestling with a Polar Bear? :)

Wanna bet he gets his shirt off, before this is over? ;)

Turns out we look like a bunch of fools with the speed skating debacle. Apparently the suits were never actually used in any competition prior to the Olympics because we were afraid another country would steal the design. As it turns out, the design was somehow already seen by several countries who tried several elements out and found it actually did not help or hindered the skaters. In particular the "vent" in the rear is causing some major drag instead of allowing the flow of air to move freely past the skater. Several US skaters have also complained of the suits being too tight and causing them problems with breathing. Great job UnderArmour!

GMAN 02-17-2014 02:18 AM

Our racers have performed dismally. Apparently, the problem wasn't with the suits. They changed back to the old ones and it didn't seem to help. This has been a difficult Olympics with the warmer weather and slushy ice. All of the figure skaters have had problems. We are still doing pretty well.

It really was a mistake to give these Games to a city that is a summer resort, could you imagine the Winter Games in 2024 or 2028 being given to Atlanta? The IOC would have been better giving it to Moscow or St. Petersburg, at least they are colder on average. They basically built an entire city from scratch..........whereas the next Winter Games in South Korea supposedly are already nearly finished. At least as long as North Korea doesn't lob a few rockets over the border, the next games are only about 100 miles South of the DMZ.

I love how the athletes are suddenly all concerned by Global Warming due to the weather conditions in Sochi. No you fools, this is typical Sochi weather, notice the palm trees? They don't grow in true cold weather cities. In Feb. their avg. high is 51 degrees and low is 37 degrees. Sochi is at the same Latitude as Nice, France, another resort city but on the French Riviera. The conditions in Nice are only slightly warmer this time of year with 4" less precipitation.

Ugh, Men's Curling just got knocked out..........we are getting better at it.

it is about politics, not the sports. You must come away from these olympic sports with a kinder view of tyranny.

the Ukraine people are being silenced and killed right now, by the very thugs hosting the olympics. :roll3:

Mr. Ford95 02-19-2014 08:32 PM

Come on Hog, let's not go there. None of the athletes really care where they are at right now, they are just doing the best they can to represent their country.

Gosh darn it, we drew Canada for Men's Hockey Semi's. I was really hoping we wouldn't see them until the next game, the Gold Medal game. Actually I was rooting for Latvia to pull the upset, they fought hard till the end, Canada did not cake walk into the Semi's.

See our Bobsled teams are doing pretty good, with the amount of money that has been poured into them since about 2000 they had better start getting good/great results.

:roll3: oh yeah? have you heard, members of the Russian hockey team are already missing?
