London 2012 Olympics

Thoughts thus far?

Can't believe NBC is seriously screwing the dog on it's Live coverage. Getting the results before they show the big finals later on at night here. The finals are taking place about 2 pm ET and instead of showing them Live they are delaying them to show pre-lims of the lesser events. It's nice to see those events but don't delay the finals so late.

How about the South Korean archer who was blind? Nice shooting.

Roadhog 07-30-2012 01:21 PM

I'm enjoying the events, and it's a great break from all the dull TV.
I missed the S.Korean archery guy, I'll check it out.
I was watching the female archery, and had to check out the beach volleyball for sure. (no bikini... no watchi)
I like the equestrian events, and wonder if they have an endurance riding event? I'll have to dig in the schedule.

I don't usually care if I hear the results, before I get to see an event.
Some of the events I don't watch all the way through, and skip around to other stuff going on.
My main worry is running out of meats and cheeses.

Mr. Ford95 07-30-2012 07:59 PM

I did get to see some neat events that I hadn't ever seen in previous Olympics coverage like Badminton, Table Tennis, Equestrian Dressage, Archery. The cool thing is, NBC does have plenty of channels to switch around on, Bravo, MSNBC, MSNBC+, NBC Sports Network and plain ol' NBC. Actually surprised they didn't try to work our a deal with TNT to show some events on there also.

Man our swimmers are seriously f-ing up suddenly. Choke City USA. Same with our men's gymnastics team, serious choke job today in the team competition after doing some big time crowing over the weekend about "Can we just have our medals already?"

Roadhog 07-30-2012 08:36 PM

I heard today they are trying to solve the ticket problem. I have been noticing venues with lots of empty seats, and you have to wonder wtf?
The olympic committee is having to buy back tickets, to sell them to the general public at the regular rates, due to ticket scalpers.
People have had to cancel their trip to see the olympics, because they had no guarantee of tickets once they got there.

They are even giving out free seats right now, to try and fill the venues, and give the athletes the support they deserve.
I like to see huge crowds screaming their guts out vs. empty seats... that's depressing.

golfhobo 07-30-2012 11:21 PM

Maybe Romney actually knew what he was talking about when he "dissed" our biggest ally and their Olympic effort. But, I doubt it.

The empty seats were bought by corporate sponsors and not filled. And you want to trust them to create and fill JOBS?

AW.... I'm just kidding. Don't want to make this political. I think the Olympics will ALWAYS stand for what they actually stand FOR... free and fair competition on a field of battle... WITHOUT guns! [well, there IS that skeet shooting venue.]

With ALL that is wrong with the World.... the Olympics, alone, stand as a testament to peaceful competition. Take them as they are, and find no reason to disparage them.

Wot,
makes me wonder if bringing in the Military for security wasn't part of the plan all along.

Roadhog 07-31-2012 02:38 PM

I've been enjoying the Horse Jumping today. I dig any event with horses.

I know if I were to try and jump that high, I'd come over the top of the horses neck and right under his hooves on the first jump.
Maybe I'd get a high 9's for then being tangled up and dragged around the arena several times before they can stop the horror.

I just saw the jumper from Sweden knock down rails from almost every jump.
It was like watching a cat get run over, and the thing crawl away still alive.
I woulda thrown cabbage at them if I were there.

What was most brutal to watch though was the wimmins beach volleyball.
No bikini's, and for the first time, I couldn't focus and target anything.
I couldn't even find a proud nipple under all the layers of ugliest uniforms ... why! .... w-h-y ? http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...0/icon_cry.gif

Would you want to be in a bikini when it's only 55-60 degrees? Scratch that thought........Roadie in a bikini........<shudder>:roll3:

From what I read on the BBC, the ticket issue is even perplexing to the Brits. It sounds like they are blaming the IOC and their system for allotting tickets. The same empty seats were seen in Beijing, Athens and Sydney. I know a ton of US fans were doing 1 day flights to places like Spain and Portugal to get Olympic tickets. You had to get them in person quite literally in convenience or grocery stores oddly enough. If you went to like Madrid you could get tix for equestrian events and table tennis but if you hopped another plane to Barcelona you could get tix there for events like crew and archery. So they were flying over there, buying the tix then flying back home while playing hookey from work for 2 days. The original thought was to call a friend in the UK to get tix but even the folks in the UK had no way of getting tix for themselves...........maybe that's why so many people turned out for the cycling road races, no tix needed for that.

Oh geez........oh the humanity, Badminton of all sports just had a major scandal break yesterday evening and today it really broke loose. 8 players were DQ'ed after intentionally trying to throw their matches. This is starting to turn into a very memorable 30th Olympiad. I loved the Chinese coaches excuse, "Bad day," yeah right they were playing worse than a 5 year old plays the game yet they were the #1 pair in the world.

I see our men's gymnasts continued the choke job today, we muster 1 bronze medal in the all-around.

Phelps won a record 19th medal yesterday in swimming which gives him the title, "Greatest Olympic Athlete Ever" in his final Games.

How about the Brit's women's soccer team in their first Olympics knocking off Brazil to win their group yesterday? Watched most of that game Live, got a little chippy there in the 2nd half. Of course it looks like they drew Canada next with the winner possibly playing the US for the chance to play for the gold.

Roadhog 08-04-2012 08:08 AM

can't tell the americans from the turdishstans....seems to be a lack of patriotism going on this year.

too many games of "keep away" ...you know, variations of soccer.

too many male huggers. Can't these tinker bells try to act like men, when they are representing a nation?

, and what's with this "we are the world crap?"
I still hate those stinking socialists and commies and want to beat them horribly, and humiliate them.
I want to send them back to the rat infested hole they came from and listen to the lamentations of dare vimmin.

I think they said Phelps finishes his career with 22 medals? The previous record was 18, he matched that record in Gold medals alone for his career.

Great stuff by Usain Bolt, he let up in the semi's for the 100 and still ran a 9.83, had he pushed it it's thought he might have lowered his World Record or come VERY close to it. Holds on to his crown as World's Fastest Man with ease, even a water bottle thrown from the stands couldn't hold him back.

Heartbreaker for the Men's Soccer team from Great Britain. Should have won it in regulation but missed a spot kick then lost the game later in a shootout. And Andy Murray, FINALLY beats Federer in tennis. Flat smoked ol' Roger in straight sets just a few weeks removed from Federer beating him on the same court for the Wimbledon title.

Mr. Ford95 08-12-2012 01:23 PM

Final day is upon us, the US have finally gone triple digits in the medal count. It's not 110 like in Beijing though. Looks like we have "won" again by that stat.

Great show by the Brits and really neat backstory for their home Games. After only getting 1 gold medal in Atlanta in '96 they completely revamped what they were doing, 16 years of work finally came to fruition as they enjoyed their best Games ever and it was on home soil.

Anyone catch the 185 lb wrestling match with the US and I think Azerbaijan? What a joke by the officials, the US wrestler got completely jobbed. What should have been a 3-3 tie with 1:15 left in the 2nd turned into a 6-0 match over major decision. The US got had a 1 point takedown but gave up a 1 point reverse and 2 point back before getting a 1 point reversal and 1 point escape. Instead the officials gave a 1 point takedown to the opponent, 3 back points and 2 reversal points. How can you give 2 reversal points if he's the one who you gave the takedown and back to without giving the US guy a reversal and escape point? I don't even understand what match they were watching to give the opponent a takedown credit, he got single leg picked right onto his back(which is a takedown for the US) but he rolled thru it and reversed.
