I don't feel like finding the link. Y'all know what I'm talking about? New overtime rules for the NFL. Similar but different than NCAA rules.

I like the new rule. :thumbsup:
It's a fair rule for the playoffs.
I'm not in favor of it in the regular season.

I think it's a stupid change, (a la the Brett Farve rule) and slightly on the confusing side but it reminds me of rock, paper, and scissors.

Touchdown is king, score a TD game over whether the opposing team gets the ball or not.
Kick a FG first, the other team gets the ball and a chance to tie it with a FG or win it with a TD.
If both kick a FG, then it goes to what we are used to with next score winning no matter how many OT's it takes to get that next score.

I'd have rather seen them play a 15 minute period like they had done, if no winning score is made then it goes to kicks like in soccer or hockey, a shootout by the kickers. 5 kicks each from 50 yards with a snapper and holder involved. If it's still tied back them up 5 yards and do another 5 kicks.

In the regular season, the game is long enough, and there isn't so much invested in the outcome.

Playoffs, I'm for a change in the rules.
Who wins the coin toss, has the best chance of winning the game.
I'd be happy if they just settled on who wins the coin toss, or come up with a better rule. :block:

I still want to know who the frigging winner is, without dragging it out.
I've already eaten half of my own organs by the end of the periods.
Overtime to me, is life threatening...and costly in broken furniture. :mad:

Roadie, what if they played an extra 15 minutes with a running clock? Guy runs out of bounds, tough, clock keeps running unless an injury occurs. Incomplete pass, clock keeps running. No TO's allowed. OT period would take no time at all to go thru and then do the kicks and get it over with.

All I know is if it goes into overtime, I'm no longer taking time to chew pieces of my liver.
My home owners insurance now refuses to cover damage due to overtime. :pissedoff:

No watching the NHL playoffs then, their OT's can be very ugly in the playoffs. Still remember watching one back in like 1999 or 2000 at the Igloo in Pittsburgh. What did it go, 7 OT periods? 20 minutes each, game started at 7 pm, ended the next morning around 3 am with a wild winning goal. Philly player just flipped the puck towards the net and the goalie missed it like he was half asleep. Credit to the fans in attendance, they stayed put.

When I watched USA vs. Canada Olympic gold medal game, I think they used a defibrillator twice on me,
and finally someone got smart and just wired me up to a stun gun. :D

Does this mean the NFL will have the same OT as NCAA? I like the OT in NCAA. Gives both teams a chance.
