NASCAR Champ Crowned

at Texas Sunday if we did not have the Chase. Jeff Gordon would have clinched his 6th title by virtue of being more than 381 points clear of 2nd place Jimmie Johnson with 2 races to go. All he needed was a 36th place finish or better to clinch, he came home 7th.

In actual news, Carl Edwards slid into the final Busch Series title. He did clinch the title Saturday. All he needed was a 36th place run, he ran 11th. Next year's champ under the banner of Nationwide Series, David Reutimann will be this year's runner-up in the driver's title. The Owner's Title for the Busch Series is still up for grabs.

Dont get me wrong, I do like Nascar, but come frickin on; weekend before last [atlanta?]: Denny [and Kurt B.] has WATER in there gas???????? J.R. loses a wheel???????? And Jimmy Johnstain just happens to slide right into 1st???? C'MON!!! Texas.........Did you happen to catch radio chatter at the last 5 or so laps that spineless Matt K. said; "would 2nd place be better off" WHAT  ???? Oh yeah Bowyer's wheel was loose, pit, ooops  didn't get the right one uh, come back in so we CAN get the right one, [19th place]. I am sorry..... but NASCAR IS looking more like WWF every weekend!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just writing how I am SEEING it  And for that matter, ALL of the overpaid professional athletes, which I AM GUILTY of watching all to often, do wish it could maybe go back to when winning seemed to be more genuine and not just for the $$$$$$$. Just my opinion, thanks for letting me vent.

I don't ever remember drivers having water in their fuel before. Might have happened but I don't remember it.

Not going to happen next year, I don't think, but NASCAR has to change the Pts system. It served it's original purpose but time to set up something better.

superdave9 11-06-2007 09:28 AM

yoopr..... 10-28-07....... last 10-12 laps, Denny sputered, Truex rear-ended Hamlin, took out the car [Truex] that was fastest ALL day, which allowed J.Jhonstain  to take the lead... how convienant. It definitely happened. The water issue was barely touched on any media outlet. Gee I wonder why?

Yeah I know it happened. What I should have said I don't remember it happening before.

I'm not into the Conspiracy theory though

Just beause the driver you don't like or the team you don't like is getting all the breaks at the right times, doesn't mean there is a conspiricy on NASCAR's part to make it happen that way.

Do you have any idea how much money NASCAR makes a year?

Why would they ever take a chance on losing that in one minute if they were ever proven to have done something to directly affect the race?

It all goes in cycles,2 years ago 5 Roush cars made the chase and everyone thought NASCAR was fixing the races for them,I mean Kurt Busch loses a damn wheel and comes within 2 inhes of creaming the pit road wall, and what happens? He goes on to win the damn Championship in that very race.

I don't get all the comparisons to the WWE? Are we really that cynical? I mean seriously, someone has to win every year and they ususally have quite a bit of luck along the way.

Mr. Ford95 11-06-2007 10:51 AM

In case anyone has missed it, JJ has either won or been strong every year in the Chase about this time. No surprise at all to me.

As for the watered down gasoline, crap happens. Wasn't like it only happened to 1 team, it happened to at least 20 including winner JJ.

What burns me up is all the caution flags for nothing at all. Driver spins out, does a complete 360 and keeps on hammering yet they throw a yellow. Not 10 years ago, they would hold the yellow to see if the driver would get going, if he did, they did not throw it.

Gotta love the conspiracy theorists.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Nextel Cup Series director John Darby said a NASCAR investigation into problems with water in fuel last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway was traced to a faulty temporary pump.

Most fueling stations at tracks have several permanent pumps and those at Atlanta worked fine, Darby said. Some temporary pumps are brought in to help with the demand for fuel during races and it was one of those pumps that contributed to the problem.

Several teams reported finding various amounts of water in fuel used in last Sunday’s race. The teams of Dave Blaney and Denny Hamlin were the first to report problems.

Darby said corrective measures have been taken to ensure the problem does not happen again.

http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/feat...eel/index.html

"We lost a left-rear wheel. We must have had an issue with the hubs or something because we had loose lugs and a loose left-rear wheel several times through the day. When that wasn't a problem, we were fast as hell. We passed a lot of cars [Sunday] but you can only do that if everything is tight and screwed on correctly."

Junior said he realized something was wrong when he stopped for two right-side tires on his final pit stop, but there was little he could do about the situation until it was too late.

"I knew we had a loose wheel on our last long run at the end of the race, but when we pitted the last time, we changed two right-side tires to get track position, but the left side was still loose," he said. "It must have gotten worse during the yellow flags."
BTW, it was Johnson, not Kenseth who asked if second was good enough. Johnson had much more at stake if they wrecked than Kenseth.

Also, the 07 guessed which wheel was loose and got it wrong. They didn't want to take a chance on taking 4 tires and loosing more time, but in the end it cost them. They took a gamble and lost. The same thing happened to Harvick the week before.

Mr. Ford95 11-07-2007 01:55 AM

The same type of thing happened to Harvick in back to back races. They guessed on which wheel was the one needing changed and got it wrong both times. Harvick called it wrong and the crew chief did 2 instead of 4. Easy to sit back after the fact and say what they should have done.

I am not favoring one team or another, in fact I dont really have a favorite driver or team. I like Chevy, Dodge, Hendrick, Evernham; I am in no way angry cause my "driver" is not winning. I am just looking, objectively, at the obvious small factors that could enhance a team or driver. I am not a "conspircy theorist", I didn't say that Rick Hendrick is actually an alien :alien: :alien: and his telekinetic powers are the reasons the team is winning. In fact Tony Stewart called out NASCAR on it; yellow flags for imaginery debris on the track. Mike3fan......YES I do realize how much $$$$ is involved with NASCAR, which comes down to track officials, inspectors, purveyors, etc..... that can very well be controled in a number of ways. I wish I weren't cynical, but cannot help to see some areas in professional sports that don't sit right with me; NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, boxing, tennis, any sport that you can bet $ on can easily be controlled in one way or another. " I'd like to thank my DUPONT, FED-EX, MILLER-LITE, CHEVY, FORD, DODGE, PEPSI, COCA-COLA, GATORADE, WRIGLEY-GUM, VIAGRA, AND ESPECIALLY CHIPS PAINT-BALL SHACK for a great running car. That is where the $ is and where the sport is heading,.......predictable. Oh yeah, how many times have you heard Wallace talk about changing both the tires instead of second guessing the drivers opinion, and with all that is riding on 1 pit stop instead of coming in for 2, why would you ever? If anything, I learned who the true NASCAR fans are. I dont mean to piss anybody OFF just thinking out loud. I like NASCAR too, but sometimes I wonder. :?
