My old (if a 2009 with 320k miles is old) had the ISX. Great pulling truck, great fuel mileage and the engine brake was amazing. I could pull a 45k load across I-64 in WV and, dropping down the mountain east of Beckley, drop to 9th, turn on the engine brake, never touch the service brakes and still be going under 50mph at the bottom.
well, I will be picking up the 2008 International Prostar limited this afternoon, has the 450 hp cummins isx in it with 298,000 miles on it. Probably be in service on monday and most likely will have my first trip with it on monday.
I bought a 2 year warranty with it so hopefully if it has any issues they will show up during the warranty period. bought it from the international used truck center in chicago. seems to drive nice seems real comfortable but i should know on monday got a run from shepherdsville ky to new mexico.
When my last ProStar was running good (for 200k miles), it ran great. Great pulling power, good fuel mileage (even for someone that idled quite a bit), plenty of storage space, good ride and a fantastic engine brake. I think you'll be happy with it.
made it to new mexico seem to average 7.2 mpg. truck seems to run great. waiting for trailer to be unloaded and then hopefully get a trip out of here soon hopefully towards illinois. want to start the fall muskie season soon!
Good deal on the fuel mileage. I'm averaging 6.9 in the 2012. That should increase, though, since it only has 6,800 miles on it so far.
I like the engine-off A/C, but I'll tell you what: I'd take the ISX in my old truck ANY day over this MaxForce. Crappy power (has a lot to do with the way they have the rev limiter set up. The engine brake is almost a joke. For some reason, they don't believe me when I tell the shop that the engine brake shuts off above 1,450rpm (we're told that 1,850 is the best rpm for the engine brake). It also has a HUGE delay before it turns on under 1,450. So, by the time it turns on, it's almost to the 1,000rpm cutoff anyway.
