Older Reefers in CA - Anyone know the penalty/fine for getting caught?
-
Hey,
Looking at reefer rates CA the past few weeks. Makes it tempting to make an "outlaw" run in to grab a load.
Does anyone have any info on the ramifications if you get caught?
Thanks!!

Ticket and possible reloading the freight on a legal trailer.

$1000 fine for not being in compliance (registered) and like chris said, don't count on them just giving you a ticket and letting you continue on your way.
-
Sometimes they just ticket you and turn you around.
So far i've transfered 5 loads onto my trailers at the bug check when others hauling for the same shipper were shut down. Makes for a nice extra pay for the O/O's.

Either way, probably means a service failure. I'm glad to hear you're getting that business. I was afraid they wouldn't be doing much in the way of enforcement. Wasn't thrilled with the law, but if you're going to make it, enforce it.

The shipper really whined last year when i raised the rates but after saving 5 of their loads in the first 2 months they got over it. Eventually they will inspect your ARB registration at the bug checks. That will eliminate many that are still sneaking around. There are 7other states that are looking at adopting the same emission regs.

Thanks for the info, looks like I need to get a newer reefer before I visit CA. It's not worth all that!
Safe travels everyone!
