Using your numbering system, there would be no #13 in the sense of something after #12. The 13th gear is the low gear, against the hard wall and back.

Flip switch
5 - middle and up, side switch in default position
5 high - middle and up, switch forward
6 - middle and back, switch default
6 high - middle and back, switch forward

7 high - right and up, switch forward
8 - right and back, switch default
8 high - right and back, switch forward
