just wondering what companies check for on military backgrounds. its been 15 yrs since ive been in the service. ive got an other than honorable discharge. should i even mention this on apps?? thanks for the help
Companies don't require you to list job histories that date back that far. I would not put down anything they didn't ask for and if they did, I would not even mention it.
There are way too many people who think they are holly'r than thou on here who will tell you otherwise. Screw them. 15 years is a long time, that was then and now is a long time since.
Nobody is going to check your military record and even if they did what are they going to do, put you in federal prison? NO

I think you will find most employment applications ask -- Have you been in the military? Then they ask for the starting and ending dates.
All of the previous posters have been correct. Some will ask, some will not. Some will ask what kind of discharge. Not to worry though. I have seen guys with "DD's" who have gotten hired.....and its all about the why. But 15 years...is 15 years, and if your nose has been clean since then.... it should be of no issue.
Just be honest, 100% honest on the application. One caught falsification can mean immediate termination, even after the fact.
Recently I thought about a Western Regional job and put out some apps. Only one of them asked about the military and even then all they wanted to know was if I was a disabled vet or a Viet Nam Era vet.
I ended up deciding to stay with my current employer.
