cdl class a, but no school
-
if someone has his cdl class a, but never went through the 160 hour class, will they have to do it with the company or not have to do it at all?
-
With no experience and no schooling most companies will not even look at you.
-
you might find a local job that don't pay much... you know the ones ... that don't require english ... pay if you can catch them ... but every company we checked with needs at least one or the other
-
well he has his cdl class a, but he never went trough the 160 hour course

Maybe a dump truck company will train you
-
My company has "Trained" several people from the warehouse on our trucks in the yard and then let them use our trucks for the test, once they pass they get a driving job. Fortune 500 company that is self insured, I imagine any insurance company would veto this practice. I also imagine these folks will have a tough time looking for other jobs unless they have a few years experience.
From the company standpoint it's not bad, you get licensed drivers trained to your policies who can't jump ship once qualified. From a driver standpoint it's good too, you get out of the warehouse and get an instant $5.00 an hour raise plus a no cost CDL.
Downside is you are only as good as the guy that trained you and you're getting only the company view of the right way to do things.

Are you looking for local or OTR?
OTR- That will be tough. Very few decent companies hire without school.
Local- Better chance. You could get on with Coke, food service, etc.

I got lucky and found a company that I go out one time a week with for training. My current job is going to shut down so will hopefully go right in a truck when the time comes. From what I have found from talking with different truck owners is the insurance is the big factor getting in with no experince. Keep looking and hopefully you'll find a place.
