What is the real life of a trucker .I am 51 and have been propositioned to drive for Swift. What is the real life of trucking? Is a there alot of physical loading on and off the trailer. I am very small in stature and can not lift more than 50 pounds at any time
There not really that much lifting, unless you get on with a shipper to door to door delieveries to Mom and Pops Stores. BUt if my memory serves me correctly, you'll be required to lift up to 80lbs for the DOT physical test. I have Arthritis from the neck down and I was able to do it, hurt a little but did it.
here is real life and times of doing the truckstop thing something you will encounter every single day while out there some betterthan this Video this is just an example kinda long hope you enjoy.
Like Coastie said there's really not much in the way of lifting as a driver. Usually companies will pay for a lumper if the receivers don't unload the cargo themselves. I've had at times had to use a pallet jack to move skids in the truck, but that's easy enough. Just depends on the company you work for. Best of luck to you. Drive safe everyone.
The real life of a driver can differ from segment to segment.
The Majority of us have to deal with:
Long days
Lots of un-paid time
Hassles of shippers/recievers/dispatchers
Long times spent away from home(this one really depends on what/who/where you work)
Be VERY careful who you work for. Believe nothing a recruiter tells you until you see it in writing. If you dont know ask someone who does, like you are doing now. Stay away from Swift.
8) I totally agree with all the drivers that posted before me! It really depends on what kind of product or " job", you are interested in. I to would steer clear of swift. Next be careful where You park at anytime! keep your doors LOCKED!Most of the big carriers pay for lummpers, or you drop and hook, tankers are cool, like the other driver said " all you have to pick up is the hose ".And if you don`t mind a little advice, Don`t Jump off of Docks, truck or trailer, Be careful always. Good Luck. 8)
