I have read so many bad things about so many different trucking companies - like, swift and schneider and werner - anyone got any advice where to start??? I have to find a company that I can take my dog with me - australian shepherd - similiar to a border collie...
DLS , Swift has a terminal in Syracuse 160ish miles from you. They also allow pets with a deposit. I know there is alot of Swift bashing here and on the road. Look at it as a stepping stone , put in your 6 months or a year and get out. Many doors will open after you put your time in , Provided you keep your dmv & dac report clean. Personally I would not expect to get the miles and pay they advertise . I am not in no way trying to push Swift. BOL
Way to go Bluesman! Great advice, the best I've heard yet to someone just looking to get started. The bashing is truly those with experience sharing knowledge of the paying your dues. You are going to pay your dues, no way around it. Choose a company that works for you now, as a trainee. Later on, explore your options. Good luck DLS and everyone drive safe.
Roehl is where I went after SAGE t/t training. Great place to start your career and pay your initiation dues. Meals, lodging with indoor pool and weight room. Transportation available while in orientation. Practice course to improve your skills prior to road test. Just like basic training. If you can afford only making $40/day, while training for a career, this may be the place for you. Had a great trainer too, Harry Johnson, just like a drill sargeant, broke me down, made me work hard and set me straight. Hell, anytime someone is willing to train you, be thankful, graduate and move on.
