Question about driving record expungement
-
Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster.
Many thanks to you all fine folks who give us newbies the real scoop on trucking. Using the search button for a while didn't find anything to answer my question...
I have 2 points on my license, for speeding 18 over. Also 2 other no point (misc) tickets for expired license tags, and rolling stop. My question is that a reckless driving ticket 4 years ago will likely keep me out of some companies.
I found out I can get it expunged within a few weeks. Is it worth it or can others still see it? And if it is expunged, how would you handle it on company applications?

If it is expunged it means that it is removed from your record as if it never happened.

So you're saying I could selectively forget when asked by the recruiter once I knew it was off? It's against my nature to deceive, but if it means the difference from Swift and a decent company....

I don't think you have to worry about it to much. I don't think I would even bother with expungement. Expungement from my experiences is more or less a fable, and I don't even know that it applies to traffic offenses. I would be forthright and honest when filling out applications, your record isn't that bad, and many apps are worded such that they will ask you have you ever been charged? Even if a charge was expunged or dropped off due to time, it's still not honest to say no.

Well, my day isn't going so well. After calling several decent companies, without giving them a ton of info, they all said that 5 years needs to pass before they'd consider me for the reckless driving ticket, expunged or not. Man it sucks that I didn't know I could plea it down back then
Don't know what I'm going to do :nervous:
