What should my Oil Pressure be? N14 Cummins Celect
-
:? I have my truck scheduled into the shop next Monday for ongoing chronic low oil pressure issue. My truck only pushes about 22-28 p.s.i. while running at cruise speeds & temperatures. At idle, about 10 p.s.i. They are going to pull the pan and probably replace main and rod bearings as well as a new oil pump.
Wondering what you all see on your gauge when running? What is "normal"? Cummins mechanic says 30 psi at cruise is "ok" but wondering what you all get?
My gauge is accurate; I've had it checked.

~45psi cruising at 60mph if I remember correctly.
'92 410 N14 with 620,000 on the rebuild.

My N-14 was running about the same oil pressure as yours is, The first thing we changed was the sensor on the backside of oil-pump. It takes a special cummins socket but we made our own. I think the sensor was around $100.

this is normal for a n14 i had the same thing in my western star and thought it was low but freightliner showed me the factory specs and 10 at idle and 30 at 1300-1400 was in spec cummings just run that low.

yeah, if it WOULD run 30 psi at 13-1400 I would not worry about it. But at those rpm's, I am down to 20 psi. At 1550 about 22-25 only. Just not enough. As much as I hate to spend the $$ to fix it, I would hate it worse if it seized up on me atop Cabbage Hill..... :?
