Averitt, from what I gather is a pretty decent company. They have dress and hygiene rules and expectations.. SO if a person likes to look sloppy, unshaven, or like a bum....not a place to apply. (Don't take that wrong, I don't know you, so its not meant personally...only "informationally".) 8)
I spoke with a fellow the other night who drives for Star (blue) which I gather is out of Nashville or thereabouts...correct me if I err. But what he had to say was not good. Its not the first time I have heard criticism and claims of less than happy feelings with the company.....
In my minds eye, Averitt would probably be the better choice. 8)
I cannot say anything about Averitt but I can speak about Star.
The Covenant deal is beginning to suck. Our freight is off and my miles are down a little. I think a great deal of the problem is with our sales and customer service folks. I've had mosre issues with CS in the last 3 months than in the 18 months before. Stupid things like wrong appointment times but when you are 3 hours late at Lowes its just too bad.
At this point I'm looking to move on after 2 years but I realy like most of the folks there.
The Atlanta fleet is run by a fool who runs off more drivers than they can hire. He tried to bully me and I rolled up my window and drove off.
I'm getting about 2600-2700 miles per week running from Sunday night until Friday afternoon.
One of the biggest sore spots is new trucks, we havent seen any in almost a year and this week instead of condos about a dozen slick top Columbias showed up. Stripped down bare bones trucks. I'm glad my truck only have 190,000 on it.
Star has a lot of Nissan freight which is usually light and drop and hook. They have several other dedicated accounts.
Its a job, I get piad, when I find a better deal that fits what I want out of trucking I'll move. I'm not going to quit if I get mad. When I get screwed over I squawk to my boss, safety, or start up the chain. I got paid to sit at a DC because the customer service girl was stupid just because I made my point.
Keep looking, find what you like, take the job you weant not the job everyone thinks you should. You might want to haul manure to Chicago on a flatbed. LOL
