The 'we're screwed' part I get. It's the part about the cell phone I don't understand. So, you do have two cell phones, a US based phone and a Canadian phone. But that still is only going to help you with intra-country calls, calls across the border will cost $$$ whichever phone you use.
Now, you don't have monthly service on the Canadian phone, is that right? You bought the phone, you buy the cards, it's a pay as you go way of talking inside the country. That might help some, such as when you are talking a lot to a Canada based customs agent. Does it sound like I understand because if it doesn't that's probably because I don't.
