Truckers under 21
A new pilot program would allow former military members, ages 18-21, with heavy-vehicle experience to drive interstate. Is that too young? Or should they consider dropping the age limit?

That would be up to the Ministry of Insurance. :)

I think it's bull! What about the 18 year old who has been driving very large farm tractors since age 6 while also occasionally driving an OTR truck around the farm fields? Yes driving on an interstate is a bit different than a farm field but.........what makes an 18 year old in the military acceptable to drive a large semi who might be a city dweller and has never driven a vehicle in their life until they got into the military?

I don't think 21 is too young to be a truck driver as long as the person is mature enough. |
I started driving big trucks when I was 18. Many people who started when I did or before began driving on the farm or in the country. I had neighbors who used to drive trucks around their farm before they were old enough to get a license and had to stand up in order to see.

I do see a quirkiness to this proposal, a former military member aged 18...........how many 18 years olds are FORMER? Unless you get discharged for wounds or injuries, your going to be older than 21 by the time your contract is up more than likely.........if your are discharged for wounds/injuries, you probably won't be medically cleared to drive a truck.........now dishonorable discharge..........
