Random inspections

Just wondering if Idaho dot officers have the right to stop you and do an inspection on the shoulder just because you have hasn't placards on.

DOT officers have the right to pull you over for an inspection at any time. Probably 50% of my inspections have been done on the shoulder.

I thought you said you were placarded if so i haul hazmat loads most of the time and i never been stopped on the road for a inspection. They have stopped me and told me to go to next exit ramp are rest area or scales. I believe it is a law they can't inspect a hazmat load on the shoulder.

Yes I was placarded. They still inspected me on the shoulder.

I misread what you had asked about. Did you mention to them that you're hauling a placard hazmat load and don't feel safe on the shoulder of the highway? After all, the regs say no parking within 50' of the road.

Didn't matter, thats why he pulled me over, because I had placards.

They do the same thing in GA all the time.
It really doesn't make sense safety wise but they don't care.

At least if something did happen on the shoulder while they're inspecting you, it's 100% on the officer.

Maine is always pulling trucks over on the shoulder for no reason.
