axle weights for doubles
 

Any know the max axle weights for doubles ? 2 - 28 and 1/2 footers

I don't think it's any different than any single or tandem trailer. The two axles in the middle are allowed 34,000 and the rear 20,000. You still have to pay attention to gross weight.

Steer 12,000
Single Drive 20,000
Single Trailer 20,000
Dolly 20,000
Single Trailer 20,000

NOT to exceed allowable maximum/licensed gross weight which is usually 80,000.

Are you sure? i do know the steer axle cannot be no more than 12 thousand, but if there is 20 k on the single axles (drives, trailers and dolly) your figure here on the latter is right at 80 thousand.

Yes, I am positive.
Look in the front of your atlas>a single axle is allowed 20,000 lbs. It dowan't mean you can exceed 80,000>BUT it does give you tolerance. A 10' spread allows you 20,000 per axle but only in a couple of states does it also allow you to exceed 80,000.

mgfg is correct. I pull doubles for UPS. The total capacity with a single drive axle is 92,000 but state laws and the truck's permits usually limit that to 80,000.

If you research steer axle weights you'll actually find several answers varying by states, and by tires, up to manufacturer specs. Our manufacturer specs are 12000. As for 34000lbs that would be true for tandem drive axles but the majority of our fleet are single drive axle tractors. Basically to sum it up the axle weights for doubles are the same as any other truck up to the 80,000 lb limit. Or 120,000 lb limit for triples with the appropriate permit. Or 150,000lb limit in Michigan with proper number of axles and permits.

if your tire manufacturer spec its tire at 12000 and your running two steer tiers(as most of us do) then your ok uptwo 24000 or 12000 each/ im not oking one can run that much on there steer or any single tire axle,

There's a whole lot more to a steer axle being rated for and being legal for a specific weight other than the side wall capacity rating. The greater the capacity the bigger the axle, the bigger the springs and the bigger the steering components including wheel bearings. Loading a 12,000 lb rated axle to 16,000 lbs just because you added the 16,000 lb tires to the axle is insanity.

Agreed. Thats basically what I said. When I said "manufacturer's specs" I was referring to the truck manufacturer. You know, the sticker in the door jam. Sorry for the confusion.

ya Ive heard of spell check, but i don't fill i must be perfect to be accepted, for some people they fill less if there not perfect. now don't take that wrong as i can tell your not one of them,if you used spell check then you know its two words.
