got a ticket!
Yeah I got a ticket. It was getting dark and I was near Baldwin, FL, coming from the Pilot on 301 north back to I-10 west. I made a left onto the interstate and blew the stop sign because 1) In similar setups there isn't a stop 2) And because of reason 1, I was too busy looking at oncoming traffic thinking this is a usual yield, so I didn't notice it. Not long after ofcourse the trooper pulls behind me and lights me up. The officer didn't give me a chance to explain my actions, just wrote the ticket.
I do drive for a living, I drive all over the the eastern USA, 1000-2000 miles a week. I have a class A but I drive class C vehicles. I have a clean MVR. Been driving trucks and professionally since 07. I will hire a lawyer to represent me down in FL(I live in ATL) and hopefully that would help me out. My defense for this citation is that its an unusual setup, all the rural areas I've been through making a left back onto the interstate would not have a stop sign. It would usually have no signs and if there a sign it would be a yield. So therefore it should of had more signage beyond just a single stop sign. It should of had a stop ahead sign and maybe flashing lights. And lastly though not part of my defense, I think the trooper should of gave me a warning. I mean I have no points on license......til now I guess..... Any help is much appreciated. |
I have used Interstate trucker lawyers and had good luck with them

Maybe after driving all those miles, he was tired and couldn't keep his eyes open

Lets not be judgemental, varying state laws sometimes catch us all off guard in a moment of complacency.

I would politely ask the judge to let me pay the fine and dismiss the points, you start telling him how it should have been marked better, you are just going to piss him off, just say, your honor, I'm not used to intersections like that and I just didnt realize there was a stop sign there. He will probably look at your record and if it's clean, he will dismiss the points. ( unless a truck cut him off on the way to work, then you're screwed)

Mistakes do happen and it sucks that ya got nailed, BUT you need a better defense! There should've been flashing lights or a "stop ahead" isn't going to cut it. Plead not guilty, and get it reduced to failure to observe a traffic control device, FL might call it something else but it's no points and your ins. co. won't know if you got popped for speeding, running a light, or stop sign. Next time look BOTH ways. Good luck
