Colorado Chain Law

I have a question on the colorado chain law that requires you to carry chains from Sept. 1 to May 31. The way I understand, its only between certain mile markers? Can a guy run in to Denver without carrying chains on I70 coming from the east?

YES, but.... IF the chain law should be invoked due to a sudden storm, you could find yourself "parked" for awhile. :D

You are only "required" to carry them from just west of VAIL to the west side of the 470 loop (mm 163 to 259.) Although, if the weather is nice, you might not get checked for them. If you do, and don't have them, it's a $50 fine.

There can be some heavy snows on the eastern plains there, but if you watch the weather and don't expect to see the chain law invoked, you can run to Denver from the east without them.

BTW.... do you have a single screw... or double?

You also must use 4 chains on your drives on I-70. You can do one axle with 4 chains or chain your 4 outer drive tires.
