question on speeding ticket
 

I was up in ct this week and they gave me a ticket for 73 in 55 in a cmv.They got me with laser. this is my first speeding ticket in about ten years.The back of the ticket says if i pay ticket no points will be put on my licence. my question is do they still show you were speeding on your license or do they not report it? I have a clean licence but trying to find out if i should fight or pay it.Anyone have any experince with this and know if it shows up on your license?

Most insurance companies are going to drop you like a rock with anything over 15 mph over the limit. As for your question, who knows? It depends on who gave it to you as much as anything else. All agencies are supposed to report tickets but I've seen times that small municipalities "forget" to report all of the tickets they collect, thereby keeping some of the monies that are supposed to go to the state. You really can't depend on yours being the one that doesn't hit. Also, as for points, I am pretty sure it depends on your home state and the points they access, not the state cited in.

Here are a few facts to consider.

1. 15+ over for a CDL holder is a serious violation regardless of the vehicle driven at the time of the violation. A couple of those in a 3 year period will get you an automatic 60 day suspension.

2. Many insurance companies and trucking companies consider 15+ over to be reckless driving and having a conviction on your license could make it hard for you to get a new job.

3. Your home state is the one that determines how many points goes on your license for any conviction.

So do you still think you should just pay this?

You might want to talk to the officer. You can suggest paying the ticket and ask to have it reduced to a non-moving violation. If that works, you should be golden.

Talking to the officer won't do any good at this point. It is the state's attorney or district attorney or what ever they call the prosecutor in the state the ticket was issued in who you would need to talk to before going to court.

That is not necessarily so. I did an audit a few years back of the point system in Michigan and the PA didn't get involved with traffic violations and it was up to the police officer to go before the judge and ask to have the ticket reduced after issuance.

Do not pay the ticket, and don't go to court yourself. Going to court by yourself is just going to piss off the judge.

Get an attorney, and have him hammer out a deal. He's not going to get rid of it, that would too much to ask.

But he may be able to get the ticket reduced. You were 15+ over, an attorney might be able to get that reduced to 10 or under, which will work for you in the long run.

I don't know how things work up there, but here in Texas, you can get deferred adjudication on tickets like speeding. Even with a CDL...but you can't get it without an attorney....the DA will not do it for you. You have to have a attorney.

I found out the hard way. I did a couple of tickets without an attorney, and now I'm stuck with them for another 3 years. And that, my friend, is what screwing me in this economy, when trucking companies no-longer need drivers like me.

Protect your drivers license at all cost, or for as long as you want to drive a truck.

Thanks again for the help.Im getting a lawyer to handle the ticket. I normaly dont speed and not positive i was going that fast .When he pulled me over he asked if i knew why he pulled me over. I thought it was for a safety inspection.Then he told me how fast i was going and that it was the same speed as rest of traffic was moving.He even said so. Ill let the lawyer work it out.
