Logbook/time off at home..
 

Had a question about hometime, well freights slow, I been home for about 2 weeks now and was wondering when I do get back on the road and update my log book, is there a restriction on how many days you can put off duty on (1) log book page. I know I have to put an "X" in the box for consecutive days off but can I fill out 1 log book page for being off for 2+ weeks or do I fill out 1 page for just a couple days off??? Thanks all.

You can do as many days off duty on one page as you'd like. I'd recommend, however, that if your off duty time falls over a month change, to split it up by month. It isn't a FMCSA requirement however.

395.8 (f)(10) Recording days off duty. Two or more consecutive 24-hour periods off duty may be recorded on one duty status record.

I don't crossover into the new month on an off duty log. I start a new off duty log for the 1st of the month.

X2 on the single month at a time off duty.

ie: run your off duty through the last day of the month, and start and new month if you plan to go on duty towards the end of the first week of the month after you come mon duty.

I know this...my "home time" is usually a week or two (sometimes) after out 3 months.

I can see how it would be nice and tidy to keep your logbooks equal to the full month, but here's something to consider:

Say you are off for two weeks ending on the 3rd of this month. Since you must carry the previous 7 days logs with you, UNLESS you use loose leaf logs you will need to carry the entire last month's logbook with you. If you get pulled for an inspection, they can (not necessarily WILL) check for mistakes on ANY day during that entire last month. This could cost you money that you had otherwise escaped getting caught on.

Personally, if I'd been off that long, I would leave home with ONE logbook that shows that I'd been off for AT LEAST the last 7 days (maybe, even the whole break time.) That way I can leave last month's logbook at home.

Just a thought.

Rev, I have very little faith in my logging abilities ;)

I also have little faith that my company will note the entry of that much time off logged on one sheet. I tried it ONE time; never *ever* again... They quipped, "You're missing logs..." So, now I meticulously fill out one sheet/day and leave it at that. I even take my little log book with me while I'm on vacation so I won't have to fill all of those days out once I return to work..

You have to consider what the company wants too, Crete wants a page filled for every day on or off duty. If your off more than 1 month then you can put a month on one page. Guess that means I"m supposed to go line 4 on duty for 15 min. every day to fill out my log LOL yeah thats gonna happen

Why? Does it take you 15 minutes to draw one line?
