Future CDL changes in the works ?

Hi all , Just wanted to pass along what I was told via phone conversation with Mass State Police . Long story shortened, I have had my class B for 25 + yrs . Back in 1991 ? when the new CDL licenses went into effect, I had taken All tests so I could one day get my class A .

Now I am told I have to retest to get my A permit, not a big deal for me. Here is the kicker, I was told soon there is going to be a change requiring anyone with a CDL to be certified by a training school. Yes I am going to have to be certified by a school if I want to even keep my class B .

Someone tell me I am wrong and just misunderstood . The way I understand it is anyone who holds a CDL who did not get it through a certified school now will have to in order to keep their license.

Maybe this is old news, or something going on behind the scenes?

You were somewhat mis-informed.

The FMCSA has proposed requiring 44 hours of behind the wheel training in addition to 76 hours of classroom time before "potential" truckers could test for and receive their CDL.

The proposed regs require students to spend time behind the wheel, but also requires them to do it at an accredited school.
