question concerning sleeper berth time

if i stop at a location and show two hours in a sleeper berth; does that not count against my 14 hrs of consecutive duty?

Yes, it counts against your 14 hour clock.

The only 2 ways to stop the 14 hour clock now is 10 hours of off duty and/or sleeper berth or going into the sleeper for 8 consecutive hours.

To clarify.... If you take the 8 hour consecutive sleeper berth break... it will stop your clock, but the 2 hour sleeper berth/off duty break will not. So the 2 hour break will count against your 14 hours.

Rule of thumb is this: Do not split log. It is too easy to make a serious mistake regarding your 14 hour rule.....which can lead to steep fines. And, if you can manage an 8 hour sleeper berth break, you should be able to do a 10 hour break and then restart your 11/14 clock fresh.

In some respects I wish they would do away with the split off duty as you can mess it up and end up going over hours if your not carefull

With the way they have it set up now they might as well do away with it.

Before the latest change I used to do 5's or 5,6,5,4 all the time and was better rested than taking a full 10 hour.

That was me, and it was nice to have the option of taking a long nap or splitting my breaks as I seen fit to do to benefit me.

I'm with you Uturn. 5 by 5 was great for me. I don't sleep more than 5 hours. So all I did was lay around or go in th truck stop waiting for the good old clock to say I was good to go.

One other thing I did was take a power nap. Maybe only lay down for 30 minutes to a hour. Worked great for me.

Now I'm retired so It doesn't mean anything one way or the other to me.
