Disabilities question?
I have a nephew who had a motorcycle accident a couple years ago and lost the vision in one eye. My question is there a permit or something that would allow him to drive? The handbook is kind of vague on this I was just wondering if any of you out there might have some"serious" feedback. Thank You.

He can try applying for an excemption from the FMCSA.
Go to the following for the form. http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regul...exemptions.htm |
you can try what uturn suggested, but i very seriously doubt it,with only having one good eye,his peripheral vision is going to be greatly reduced

I read (transport topics a while back) where they (FMCSA I think) gave 1000 monocular drivers vision exemptions and tracked their safety record to see how they would do. Guess what. They posted a better safety record than binocular drivers did. Must be because they turned their head more their one eye swept more area and picked up things the other guy's missed.
They are right now re-evaluating the physical requirements and supposedly there will be some major changes, I wonder how that little test will play into it. Maybe you're nephew won't be out of luck after all... |
Thanks for all of the replies!
