53 foot trailer lengths???
What are the lines marked on 53' trailers? What length are they marked at.. Mine is marked at 40' for CA but what are the others? Cant you slide a 48' all the way back?? I need to mark my trlr. I have been driving for 10 yrs but always pulled a 48' grain bucket or a 48' reefer
Help is appreciated. Thanks |
What do you want to mark, the 40' mark? Some manufacturers have it marked from the factory. If that is what you want to do, you can just get out the measuring tape. :?

A mark for the 40 foot mark is for CA, but other states like GA, VT, and others, repuire no more than 41 feet to the center of the rear axle. Personally, I would not try to mark it with something readily visible from any distance. If CA or any other state scale wants to measure it, they can. But I'm not going to give it away to them at a glance.

California is probably the most strict with their king pin law. Most states don't bother you. I have had people tell me that Georgia has hassled them, but I have never had a problem with them. California will pull you in if your king pin is not right. If you want to mark the 40' you could do it from underneath the trailer where it isn't as visible. I have never had a problem with a 48' being all the way to the rear of the trailer, although unless there is a reason to have the wheels all the way to the rear, I don't know why anyone would do that. It just requires a longer space to make turns.

Strikes me that Louisiana also enforces it's bridge-law.
