Warranty

Well the new mack has been good so far. Or so i thought. Took it into the dealer the other day for its first service. Truck has 8,500 miles on it now (4months old). The service writer informed me. The motor and transmission are both leaking oil. WTF. No big deal. Dealer is great and will fix it as soon as i can get the truck back to them.

My next question is extended warranty. I never bought into extended warrantys. But with this truck and all the emission stuff on it. I think repairs can add up fast. I can get extended warranty to bring it to 60months or 250k miles. I would run out of time before the miles. I could go all the way to 84/months or 250k. The warranty is for the Motor and emission system .

Mack has two warranty levels. The black and Bronze. Bronze covers almost everything on the motor. The price for the 60month / 250k is $4,800 and thats for the bronze. There is a big jump in price to go 84/months /250k. That one is $7,900. I think im going to go with the 60/month one for 4800. I would really like the 84month one. But the miles would be close. and if i get balls to the wall busy i may do 250k in 60months.

I have 5 more months to make a choice. Im not looking forward to writing out a check for almost 5k for a warranty. But then again it will be a good peace of mind. Knowing that the motor and emission system is covered.

Well this is coming from someone that bought a few cars that needed repairs under the Extended plans I had on them. I had one that Ate 4 Hubs 2 Oil pan gaskets and a few other minor issues yeah right minor my butt. It was to the point the Company that paid for the Repairs was dreading the calls. Gotta Love GM Quality. So far my 06 Chrysler has been Issue Free expect for a Tire Monitor sensor.

I despise warranties for all the fine print.

But with the current emissions, I'd be taking a really close look at this too. Especially considering the cost of DPF repairs.

Thats why i never got the warranties. But the service writer did talk to me about it. There is not a whole lot of fine print believe it or not lol. Only reason im even thinking about it is the emission ****. If it was a 2002 Mack with E7 in it then i would laugh at a warranty

They willing to show you invoices from warranties they've covered in the past?

I didn't ask but im sure they would. I know James the service manager well at my local Mack delaer. Been dealing with them for over 10years. When i say they are good people they really are. One of the the reasons i stick with Mack is cuz the dealer has great support. Next time im there im going to talk to him about it more.

I told my trailer guy you are giving me the trailer. I'm paying you for the service.

I had to go to 5 dealers before that hit home.

Sometimes with this equipment, that's the hardest part.

Well, you could do good w/o warranty, or you could do bad, with the warranty. So basically, it's just a bit gambling, and a bit comforting, but either way if i've decided to buy, i'd buy the best available on a market, or ain't buy at all! Most problems will pop up while still under OEM warranty, or way ....way.... after....

It hurt's to pay money for a warranty but it will probably hurt more if you don't pay! If it wasn't for the electronics and emissions I'd say save your money but you havr them and they cost a lot!
