Truck #2

So its been alittle while since i posted around these parts. Just picked up my 2nd truck. Its a New 2012 (left over) Mack Granite. 505hp, 18speed, 20k front, 20k lift and 46k rears on camelback. Double frame. Full Lockers. It has a 4,700 gallon pik rite tank. I been looking for a 2nd truck for a while. Wasn't really any good ones on the used market. I did find some decent ones. But when i called they were tractor conversions. So i pulled the tigger on this one. For wondering minds I got a good price. 163,000. Then a extra 2,500 to paint fenders and change the valves and bumper out, on the back of the tank. That same truck in a 2015 would go for 188,000. Got a decent rate on loan. 6.25% with 50k down, payment of 2211.00 for 60 months. Business has been good. I plan on keeping both trucks. Just put a clutch in the 2002 Mack. Have a meeting this week with a operations manager of a big company. Hoping i can get some work from him hauling sludge from treatment plants. My lettering guy is on Vacation for another week. So the truck wont be lettered for about 2 weeks.

LOL there is some good money to be made. Thats for sure. Most days i ride around town and make 1000-1500/day. Avg. around 25,000 miles a year. Easy Stuff!!

mndriver 08-17-2014 02:15 PM

what all do you pump? septic tanks? do you have a state license to worry about? never really talked anyone or looked into it.

I will pump almost anything as long as its not hazmat. I do Septic tanks, Cesspools, Grease Traps, Holding tanks, Car Wash Pits, Lint traps at commercial laundromats, Leachate from landfills etc.

Every State is Different as far as permits go. I need a State Permit from PA. then i need permits from the county's i pump in. Then you need permits for the treatment plant were you dump. It can be a pain in the ass at times. But once you get all the permits filed. You just have to renew every year and pay the fees.

Mackman 08-17-2014 02:24 PM

Biggest problem is getting the work. Not like there are load boards for vacuum trucks lol Then some customers love to take 60-90days to pay. I just got paid 12,000 for a hauling job i did 10 months ago.

mndriver 08-17-2014 02:26 PM

I have a hard enough time just cleaning my own drains....

Mackman 08-17-2014 02:34 PM

This was a good job. A Froce main broke leaving a pump station on a sunday. Had to shut the pumps down and truck the water to he treatment plant. 12 trucks there and we could barley keep up with it.

Then you get jobs like this that suck. Snow on the ground lid is 2ft below grade and you have to dig it up when its 30 outside.

the ones I think of are the septic tank pumping. I grew up in the country and about every 4 years, I can remember my parents having it pumped out.

Maniac 08-18-2014 06:39 AM

Good for you..............looks like you're doing well....keep it goin !!!!!!!!!!

Mackman 08-18-2014 02:45 PM

Im trying Maniac. So far so good. Only thing i hate is the paperwork end of it. DEP reports, Ifta Reports, Quarterly Tax stuff, Entering all the customers info in quickbooks, Mailing invoices etc. After being in the truck all day and coming home to paperwork blows. But i know in time, i can hire someone to take care of it for me lol. Sometime i miss the dump truck days were the paperwork was very little and the quarry paid once a week. But then again i didn't make the money i do now. Almost forgot. The damn phone. The office line forwards to my cell phone. Sometimes i get 10-15 calls a day. Even tho. the Avg is around 6-7. But hey im not bitching. happy it rings lol

Yes all Mack

Got the new one lettered up. I tell you what. If i couldn't drive a truck i think another good business would be truck lettering. My lettering guy has a brand new sprinter van 45,000 he paid. A vinyl cutter and a laptop with the software about 20,000. and he charges 80/hr and what ever the vinyl is. My truck was $940.00 to letter. He does good work. Best part i like he comes to you.

Well had 2 trucks out working last Saturday. Had my cousin drive the 10wheeler. Man 2 trucks can do some damage. We had a homeowners Association to do it. 235/house and we got them done in 11hrs. After Dumping fees and giving my cousin 300 cash for the day. I grossed around 2500 for the day. It was a good day. Gotta say it was the first time i let some one drive my truck. I was alittle nervous at first. But i relaxed alittle. Had to keep telling myself he is a good driver and can handle it. Which is the truth. But still alittle nervous when you put someone in a truck worth 70k and let them take it down the road.

I was in Delaware and Maryland a few days ago. I saw two or three trucks like yours, Mackman. I thought about you when I saw them. One was a nice looking Pete. When I saw the cab, I knew it wasn't you. Of course, they also had a different name on the tank. lol.

Mackman 11-08-2014 02:02 AM
