Greasing the truck
 

So when my oldman was around his rule of thumb was to grease the whole truck every 2 weeks and grease the throw out bearing on the clutch once a week. I have always done this. But after talking to different people it seems like your over greasing it. ( as my oldman would say there is no such thing) How often do you guys grease your trucks??

the only thing i wouldnt do every 2 weeks is the throwout barring. after all.. the rest gets pushed out anyway right?

I have always been one to see what the OEM recommends in their lube manual. They built it. They tested it. They know what it takes to keep it working right.

There's no such thing as overgreasing, it will not hurt components. The important thing is to learn the proper way to grease and good intervals.

And a good quality grease.

I do my throw out bearing 3 times a year, never had any problems with it, replaced it when I replaced the clutch at 800K.

Otherwise I grease it every 3 weeks or so, 7 to 8000 Miles

I grease it every 3 weeks or so, 5,000 to 8,000 Miles..I also jack the front end up to get at the king pins.Very important.My Kings have lasted now 1.4 million.They finally went on me this week..I got an estimate for 950.00 that includes the alignment.

funny this all should come up. my dad had his truck PM'ed by the TA today.. we think they over greesed the truck.. had a brake fire to the point he might need a new spindle. took the wheel seel out too..

Another reason for checking the lube manual. There are several axles from Meritor and now Detroit that the guideline is to grease the kingpins while the axle is on the ground.

That would'nt be from greasing. Only if the s-cam seal is blown on the brake side will grease come out that side, and even then I doubt it will take out the seal. It was probably the seal that went first.
