what does your truck weigh?

my whole driving career i've been driving columbia's. never had a issue with wight but they all had detroits. mine has a cat. yesterday i was at a scale of a shipper. 39790 in the box, a rail car and my truck. weight was at 75580.

my truck is a 04 columbia, c15 cat (mbn if it makes a diffrence), 227wb dual exhaust and a 70 condo.

a buddy of mine told me that a 379 is the lightest truck you can buy. my dad's t800 is lighter then mine.

so.. whats yours weigh?

rank 07-17-2011 03:02 AM

well let me think...don't know exactly because I always tare with a trailer.

1998 T800 w/M11 Cummins, 230" WB, 72" bunk (I think) = 30,000 - 10,700 for trailer weight as reported on the dealer's spec sheet = 19,300 approx
2008 T660 w/ISX Cummins, 244" WB, 72" bunk weighs approx 1,000 more than me.
2005 T2000 w/C15 Cat, 244" WB, weighs approx 2,000 more than me.

almost all of the extra weight is in the engines because it shows up on the steers. The Cat has to have the 5th wheel all the way back all the time.

VPIDarkAngel 07-17-2011 03:46 AM

I drive a 2007 Peterbilt 387 with a Cat C15, 237" (methinks) wheelbase, a ThermoKing TriPac APU, air deflectors, side skirts all the way to the back of the sleeper, 70" high-rise, and dual 100-gallon tanks, and it's somewhere between 17,000 and 18,000lbs. I can't remember whether that's with full tanks or empty tanks. Since I'm 100 miles from it right now, I'll check it when I go back to work Monday.

firebird_1252 07-17-2011 04:16 AM

rank, my truck scaled weird. my front axle of the tandems was heavy the rears not so much and 10200 (aprox) on the front.

Do you really believe in that number? With full tanks and 53 box i'm around 34,400...depends on a breakfast....

Mackman 07-17-2011 02:49 PM

The daycab i drove at Venezia came in around 14,300lbs. That was an IH 9200

My tri/axle comes in light at 25,300lbs.

Chunker 07-17-2011 04:03 PM

2010 KW 660 bobtail-19,500, with empty 53ft van-35,000, hauling paper loads-constantly pushing 79,000 or more. I found the sweet spot for the 5th wheel, front quarter flaps at the edge of the front of the trailer, it depends on how it was loaded, I'll be 12,200 on the steers, 33,000 drives and 33,000+ on the trailer at the 40ft mark.

flood 07-18-2011 01:40 AM

my 06 volvo 780, volvo d12 10sp auto full tanks is 20,300

My 08 T660 with 2 120's 72" areodyne and to the hilt with straps and chains with a 48x102 step is 30,580 lbs

no_worries 07-22-2011 05:27 PM

'06 T800, ISX, Studio, 244", twin 150's...20,000 full of fuel with two people and all their gear.

barf 07-23-2011 02:16 AM

'09 Int. Prostar Skyhigh w/Cummins ISX, Carrier APU and 275 gallons is 21500lbs.
Can only haul 43500 in a reefer with 1/2 fuel.

VPIDarkAngel 07-31-2011 12:09 AM

Ok, I checked. It's 17,481 + 440 for the APU, so 17,921lbs. for an '07 387.
I also checked a newer 387 with a Cummins ISX and it's 17,397.

That makes me want a t800 that much more. Detroit with 120 gallon tanks and we're talking 1100 lbs lighter or so. I assume the tanks were full?

To the neck. I do have wide-base tires and a few other lightweight specs. The T8 gives you as much latitude as any truck when it comes to spec'ing.

Pretty exact numbers; are those the stamped weights off the door frame? Are they "dry" weights?

firebird_1252 07-31-2011 02:03 PM

i want a t800 in the worse way. 72" stand up sleeper, 475 ISX, 3.42's and a 13 speed would be ideal. yet they're hard to find. i'm getting highly annoyed with my columbia. had 44k in the trailer the other day tanks 3/4 full the weight was 80240. i'm also hoping its because i haul rail cars and i still have all steel wheels on the truck.

no_worries 07-31-2011 04:12 PM

T8's are definitely more prevalent in the mountain states and provinces out west than anywhere else.

Most weights printed in the door are dry weights

Aluminum wheels are 60 pounds each, steel are 90 pounds

firebird_1252 07-31-2011 09:27 PM

i wish you could get a t800 glider.. same specs as i said before just with a n14 525

my dry weight is stamped at 17893

Stamped weights, yes. I don't think it specified, but I'm pretty sure they're dry weights.
Also, both trucks had 10 aluminum wheels and we don't carry spare tires either.

... and I'll wager a dozen of Krispy Kreme's finest that you didn't put that beast on a CAT Scale, eh? (not that I can entirely blame you)

firebird_1252 08-06-2011 08:12 PM

i run off the rail, it'd cost me a arm and leg for every load for a cat scale. and there is none on 83 going south.

BoyNextDoor 08-07-2011 04:40 PM

That's cool. Me and the wife are thinking about getting a Puggle and bringing it on the truck. Make things interesting.

BanditsCousin 08-14-2011 03:34 AM

Pugs shed like crazy, but I'm not sure on a hybrid breed like that. Get a good dust buster, and a roll of quarters for the vaccuum at the 'Beacon :)

firebird_1252 08-14-2011 03:15 PM

pugs shead like crazy??? try having my boxer! i swear so much hair on the floor i thought i had a carpet!
