Log Book Question?
Been using the hourly time sheet for the past 4 1/2 years, so bout forgot how to do the logbook when I need to do it, so here is my question.
I live in Rainsville, my Truck is in Rainsville, when I do the Flatbedding for a company that is in Ashville AL, I bobtail down there to get the load on their trailer. This is how the load went this past Friday, went to Ashville AL got load, went to Louisville MS, delivered load, returned to Ashville AL dropped trailer and bobtailed home, done for the day. Would this be the correct way to log this: Log 1 hr to Ashville Al 56 Miles, then 4 hrs to Louisville MS mileage from Ashville AL is 220 miles, go on duty not driving for 15 min for unloading, then 4 hours back to Ashville AL, 15 minutes to drop trailer and then off duty as I drive my CMV home, is this correct? Total time driving would be 9 hrs, mileage 496, on duty not driving time would be 30 minutes, then rest of time off duty. |

I have put it on log sheet as such:
Off Duty Time: 13.75, No Sleeper Berth, Driving, 9 hours, 1 to Ashville, 4 to Louisville MS, 4 to return to Ashville Total Mileage is 496. On Duty not Driving: 1.25, 15 min pre trip, 15 min pu load, 15 min unloading, 15 min drop tlr, 15 min fueling. On the from and to, I have From Rainsville Al, to Ashville Al, since this is where it ends. Does this sound correct? |

I heard its up to your company to show a pre trip or post trip... The only thing you have to fill out is the vehicle inspection report. I could not find it , on the fmcsa website stating you have to show a pre trip. If someone can show me the link i would appreciate it.

At Celadon, we're required to flag the Pre-trip, as it's only a walk-around. We then do a full Post-trip at the end of the day which is logged on duty. That's exactly how our logging department says we have do to it. Other companies may be the opposite.

If a pre-trip consists of a quick walkaround (under 7 minutes), it can be flagged, but must be shown on your log either way your company requires. Of course, your company may require both a full pre and post trip inspection.
