International Trucks

Ever since I've been involved with the trucking industry names like Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Freightliner always come to mind. But several folks on here (Gman being the main one) have an affinity for International trucks. And the more I've studied them it seems International makes damn nice looking and rugged trucks. Seems like a 9900, 9400, or a Prostar equipped with a 500 hp Cummins engine and a 10 or 13-speed would do the job nicely for any owner/operator. Comments anyone?

The dashboard quality sucks on my 9400 and the hood lock receiver drives me nuts with creaking but other that it's a good truck. I love the sleeper: it's comfortable and has a better noise insulatoin than a FTL Columbia I drove before. I threw out the passenger seat and there's now plenty of rooms for all my stuff :)

IH is a great truck. Ifr i couldnt buy me a MACK an 9900ix would be my 2nd choice. Petes and KW are way overrated. My mack will eat them up and sh*t them out.

I have owned (and currently selling) a IH. I liked the truck, the sleeper was much better than even my KW studio. Only reason I got out of it was because I got my FLD paid off and decided that life was easier w/o a truck payment. A truck is a truck, as long as the wheels keep turning, a Pete makes the same buck as a fl, ih, KW, or anything else. Find a good deal on a truck and go for it.

My personal preference is a mid-70s KW or Pete bit I like old school rigs.

I think they have stepped up to the plate over the years! We have a few here at our trucking school and have found them to be very reliable. Comfortable and ease of us is a good word for some of the fleet.

I sure like my 9900 and have had comments from 2 other grain haulers over the last 2 weeks that they liked the looks of my IH and thought the interior was alot roomier than their rigs(90's Pete and a fairly new WS). I now agree with Tracer on the crappy plastic dash. I went to push in the brake knob today at the feed mill, and the plastic that holds the entire valve in place behind the dash panel gave out. :pissedoff::tears::pissedoff:

I have never owned a truck that has held up like my International. I have a couple of friends who still think that the Pete 379 is the way to go. My International will get better fuel mileage than either of them and has more room in the sleeper. I think that International is way under rated. I have owned Pete and Kw among other brands. I still like the International. It will make as much money as anything on the road. I much prefer the layout of the sleeper to Peterbilt or KW. And my 9400 is well insulated. Until I bought my International I preferred a Pete. When I look for another truck I prefer an International, but mostly look at features. I want a truck that is in good shape, gets decent fuel mileage and is a good deal. I look at the sleeper and driver comfort as well as over all value.
